Hart Vs. Norco In CIF Softball Playoffs

The Hart softball team faces Norco in the semifinals of the CIF-Southern Section Division I tournament on Tuesday. The game is in Norco, as if Norco needed any more help in this one.

Norco has won its three playoff games by a combined score of 15-2. Hart has won its three playoff games by a combined score of 3-0.

Norco has a 24-game winning streak entering the semifinals. Hart has a four-game winning streak.

Norco beat Valencia and Saugus in the Tournament of Champions in March. Hart was 2-0 against Saugus, but 0-2 against Valencia during the
Foothill League season.

Hart senior pitcher Destiny Rodino has been all-but unhittable in playoffs. She has thrown three straight shutouts, given up only three hits in three games, and is coming off a no-hitter against Esperanza in the quarterfinals.

Norco senior pitcher Teagan Gerhart gave up three hits and struck out 12 in her team’s 7-1 quarterfinal win over Thousand Oaks. Gerhart, who’s headed to Stanford in the fall, is one of three triplets on the team. Her sister, Whitley, is the team’s right fielder, and Kelsey is the team’s catcher.

Freshman Emily Lockman had a two-run single in a four-run fifth inning for Norco against Thousand Oaks.

Hart catcher Jessica Shults has driven in two of her team’s runs in playoffs. She hit a solo home run in the first round against Trabuco Hills and had an RBI double in the quarterfinal game against Esperanza.
