Fast And Furious First Responders Fueled For Charity
If you’ve ever dreamed of challenging a cop to a race, your dreams just might come true.
The Fast and Furious First Responders Charity Event pits citizens against those used to driving emergency vehicles for time trials at Racer’s Edge Indoor Racing in Canyon Country.
The action happens Thursday, June 25 and they’re looking for teams from companies, neighborhoods, community groups or clubs, just about anybody willing to take them on to raise money for programs that benefit children and families.
Already revving their engines are drivers from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s station, the local LA County Fire stations, the California Highway Patrol and American Medical Response, because “the race is never over when it comes to helping children.”
Each agency has chosen a charity to benefit from the event: the L.A. County Sheriff’s “999 for Kids,” LA County Fire Explorer Post 6 program, CHP Newhall Area Squad Club for fallen officers’ families and AMR/American Cancer Society.
“All are invited, including the public.” said Sgt. Darren Harris from the SCV Station. “We are encouraging local businesses to send their best employees as a team-building exercise and reward them for a job well done during challenging economic times.”
Along with the laps around the track, there is a Pit Crew Challenge to test how fast teams can change a set of race car tires. Along with bragging rights, racers can also take home some hardware, as trophies will be awarded for the four overall fastest times.
Participants must be at least 8 years old and 50 inches tall. Each participant is asked to make a $30 donation, which entitles them to two races (adults do 12 laps, kids do 8), pizza and soda. Hours of the event are 5 to 10 p.m. Corporate sponsorship opportunities are available, as are team sponsorships.
