Valencia, Hart Share Foothill League Softball Championship

The Foothill League softball season ended with Valencia winning its ninth straight championship. But for the second year in a row, Hart can claim a share of the title too.

The Valencia softball team capped its league season with a 7-2 win over Saugus. Hart shut out Golden Valley, 8-0, behind a one-hitter from Destiny Rodino. Both Valencia and Hart ended with 8-2 league records.

Saugus finished in third place and will earn an automatic playoff berth to the CIF-Southern Section playoffs when they are announced next week.

West Ranch beat Canyon 4-2 and might have knocked Canyon out of the playoff hunt.

Santa Clarita Christian’s Carly Asher had 12 strikeouts in five innings an 11-1 win over Hillcrest Christian. She was also 3-for-3 and drove in two runs.

In high school baseball, the battle for third place and a playoff spot is between Saugus and Hart. Saugus is in third place in the Foothill League standings. Hart is one game back in fourth. Hart is at West Ranch. Valencia is at Saugus. Canyon is at Golden Valley.
