Santa Clarita Schools Still High Achievers
According to statistics just released by the California Department of Education, schools in the Santa Clarita Valley continue to meet high standards.
The state released scores today from the Academic Performance Index tests which all students took in the spring of 2008.
Two-thirds of the 54 schools in the area scored well above the 800 target score set by the state and the majority of the others are just a few points behind.
All but one school in the Newhall Elementary District scored above 800 points, with Stevenson Ranch School scoring 955, the highest of any elementary school in the valley.
In the Saugus District, 15 of the district’s 18 schools exceeded the threshold and half of the eight schools in the Sulphur Springs District scored above 800. In Castaic, three of the district’s four schools scored above 800, with one elementary school only three points behind.
In the Hart District, 11 of the district’s 17 schools were ranked among the top 20 percent of schools in the state. District officials are pleased with the assessments, which they prefer to see as benchmarks to be used as guidance for concentrated instruction and student support.
The results that most districts anticipate come out in August, when the CDE releases the Accountability Progress Report (APR), which charts the school’s progress and compliance with federal and state learning programs.
