Boydston May Be Eyeing Spot On City Council

The Santa Clarita City Council race may already be heating up, as TimBen Boydston says he is contemplating a run for a four year term.

Boydston, who serves as the Executive Director of the Canyon Theatre Guild, was surprisingly appointed to a seat on the City Council in December 2006, after Cameron Smyth's election to the state assembly.

One of the reasons Boydston was selected to hold Smyth's old seat was because he had promised not to use the seat as an advantage in running for the 2008 election.

{mosimage}His tenure on the Council lasted 16 months, in which he established himself as an outspoken member. Some of his more notable council moments include publicly speculating that city staff was engaged in collusion during the Henry Mayo Campus Expansion hearings, and his stern opposition to the Big League Dreams sports park the City had hoped to build.

Boydston has not yet officially announced a run for city council, however, appearing on The Former Friends of John Boston on KHTS AM-1220 Monday afternoon, he did say that he was thinking about it.

"I'm doing exploratory meetings with people around town to find out if I have enough support," he told host John Boston. "I haven't made that decision, but probably within the next few months I'll put it together and decide if that's something I want to do because I really enjoyed it."

If Boydston does decide to run, he will be vying for one of three seats up in the April 2010 election. Those seats currently are held by Mayor Frank Ferry, Council member Marsha McLean and Council member Laurene Weste.
