Drunk Driver Causes Rush Hour Pileup In Castaic
Another drunk driver spent the night behind bars after the California Highway Patrol responded to a four-vehicle collision on the northbound I-5 north of Lake Hughes Road Monday afternoon.
About 4:30 p.m., Toni Barbosa, 30, was driving a 1995 Nissan northbound when she hit the rear of a 2003 Freightliner truck driven by Omar Reynaga, 47, of Fontana. Her vehicle then struck the right side of a 1997 International driven by Ismael Pena, 66, of El Monte and continued in traffic, hitting the right side of a 2008 Chevrolet driven by Karen Taylor, 48, of Highland Ranch, Colorado.
Barbosa’s vehicle sustained major damage and she was trapped in the car with moderate injuries. She was extricated from the car by firefighters and was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.
It was determined that Barbosa was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision and she was placed under arrest. Two lanes of the freeway were closed for investigation and cleanup of the accident. No other parties were injured.
