Students are given the opportunity to try out different jobs, such as culinary arts positions, where they are taught by a former White House chef.

Through the program participants can gain useful knowledge as well a certifications need to continue a career in a specific field.

“We had a cosmetology student who wasn’t doing well in school and was almost on her way out,” said Jan Burns ROP Program Specialist. “We worked with her and (she) stuck it out and now she is the owner of a salon.”

The program is open to 11th and 12th grade students as well as some adults, and participants can earn credits that can be used towards high school graduation.

Seventeen students and one adult participant will be recognized for outstanding achievements and three will be honored for superior achievement.

The dinner takes place at Rio Norte Junior High, Tuesday at 6 pm.
