Santa Clarita Historical Society gives tour of dam as
fundraiser.

The Santa Clarita Historical Society has set
up this year’s tour of the St. Francis dam site.
Frank “Dam Man” Rock will be leading the tour on March 15, as well
as giving a short lecture at 1 pm on the history of the dam and what led to its
failure.
Rock is considered an expert on the dam, and has appeared on
the History Channel and the Discovery channel speaking on the subject.
The tour will leave the Saugus Train Station by bus
at 2 pm and will take guests to the dam, which is the site of the second-worst
natural disaster in
More than 450 people were killed on March 12, 1928, when the dam failed and
sent
water rushing from San Francisquito Canyon to the sea.
