Castaic School District Selects 2012-13 Teachers Of The Year

CASTAIC UNION SCHOOL DISTRICT SELECTS 2012-13 TEACHERS OF THE YEAR

The Castaic Union School District recently completed its selection process and announced Teacher of the Year winners for the 2012-13 school year. The district takes the Teacher of the Year selection process very seriously and has a multi-step program in place to ensure that each winner is chosen using an unbiased, impartial approach with teaching peers taking a lead role in selection.

Teachers at each Castaic school site nominate candidates every spring who they feel represent the “best of the best” based on California’s teaching standards. Teacher leadership teams, including site administrators, then decide who they feel should represent their school in a district-wide competition. Once each site has its local winner, a team consisting of the four current Teachers of the Year, CTA representatives and CUSD administrators embarks on a district “tour” where they observe the candidates at work. Subsequent interviews are also scheduled where the team of judges has the opportunity to ask nominees a series of prepared questions, eventually reaching their final decision for District Teacher of the Year.

The 2012-13 Teacher of the Year winners from the Castaic Union School District are: Jane Bates, Castaic Elementary; Robin Peters, Live Oak Elementary; Jamie Davis, Northlake Hills Elementary; and Melissa Solomon, Castaic Middle School. After completing the selection process late last week, Melissa Solomon has been chosen as Castaic’s District Teacher of the Year. She will now advance to the Los Angeles County competition from which there will be 16 winners who move on to the state-wide and possibly national competitions. Congratulations to Mrs. Solomon and all of Castaic’s site-based winners for being recognized by a true jury of your peers!
