Stay Green Cuts Fair Oaks Ranch Water Expenses

Fair Oaks Ranch Neighborhood Homeowners Association and Stay Green Inc. saved more than 2 million gallons of water in 2012, reducing outdoor water consumption 18 percent in the first year after WeatherTRAK Smart Water Manager Solutions were installed, said HydroPoint Data Systems, Inc., Smart Water Management Solutions Officials.

“Fair Oaks Ranch Neighborhood HOA significantly reduced water bills in 2012. Despite continued water rate increases, we did not have to increase association dues for homeowners this year and we were able to re-apply funds to bigger landscape improvement projects, achieving greater water efficiency and long-term environmental benefits,” said Board President Max Hobbs. “The WeatherTRAK irrigation technology created immediate dollar savings and true value for our community.”

Fair Oaks Ranch Neighborhood HOA, a community of single-family residences by Pardee Homes, has partnered with Stay Green since 2004 to create healthy, sustainable landscapes across the neighborhood’s parks and common areas, Said Hobbs.

Stay Green uses a fully integrated monitoring system to keep track of alerts and system performance and address water leaks or other system issues that may arise.

“Replacing old-school timers with WeatherTRAK Central control allows our team to monitor irrigation schedules and alert notifications from the web where Stay Green is able to work more efficiently and respond quickly to any changes in site conditions. By reducing the time spent making manual changes and adjustments to irrigation in the field, our team remains focused on plant health and landscape appearance,” said Grant Clack, operations manager at Stay Green.

Using the water bill savings generated by the pilot with WeatherTRAK controllers, Fair Oaks Ranch Neighborhood HOA replaced 503 sprinkler nozzles with pop-up, pressure-regulated spray heads to further enhance irrigation efficiency at the community’s park areas.

The Castaic Lake Water Agency and the Santa Clarita Water division recognized the community’s accomplishments with a rebate check which will be used to fund future landscape and infrastructure improvements, said Hobbs.

Innovative tools like WeatherTRAK and related practices have helped Stay Green earn three trophy awards from the California Landscape Contractors Association for outstanding achievements in water management, landscape health and quality workmanship with clients in commercial markets and apartment, condo and townhome communities.
