National Weather Service Issues A Weather Warning For SCV Area


The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory above 3000 feet for snow and strong winds… Which is in effect from 7 am this morning to 11 PM PST this evening for the Kern County mountains.

* Snow accumulations:1 to 3 inches at pass level and 4 to 6 inches above 5000 feet

* elevation: above 3000 feet.

* Timing: snow will start this morning and become heavier this afternoon and evening before ending later this evening.

* Locations include: Tehachapi… Pine Mountain… Lebec

* winds:south winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 50 mph are possible at the base of the Interstate 5 corridor near the Grapevine.

* Impacts: high impact along the Interstate 5 and Highway 58 corridors. Travelers are encouraged to check Road conditions as this situation develops through the afternoon and early evening.

Precautionary/preparedness actions…

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow… sleet… or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities… and use caution while driving.

Tonight A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 33. East southeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Sunday Partly sunny, with a high near 51. West wind 5 to 15 mph.

Sunday Night Mostly cloudy, with a low around 30. West wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light southwest in the evening.

Monday Mostly sunny, with a high near 52. Northwest wind around 5 mph.

Monday Night Partly cloudy, with a low around 29. North wind around 5 mph.

New Year’s Day Mostly sunny, with a high near 54. East northeast wind around 5 mph becoming southeast in the morning.

Tuesday Night Partly cloudy, with a low around 30. South southwest wind around 5 mph becoming east northeast in the evening.

Wednesday Mostly sunny, with a high near 57. East southeast wind around 5 mph.

Wednesday Night Mostly cloudy, with a low around 35. Southwest wind around 5 mph becoming east northeast in the evening.

Thursday Partly sunny, with a high near 57. Northeast wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the morning.

Thursday Night Mostly cloudy, with a low around 36. West wind around 5 mph becoming east northeast in the evening.

Friday Partly sunny, with a high near 57. East northeast wind around 5 mph.
