West Ranch Boys Basketball Team Hands Hart Its First Loss Of Season

The West Ranch boys basketball team handed Hart its first loss of the season, 70-63, in the Foothill League opener for both teams.

Hart entered the game with a 16-game winning streak and as the top-ranked team in the CIF Southern Section Division 3AAA poll.

West Ranch never trailed in the game, jumping out to a 9-0 lead in the first quarter and outscoring Hart 22-10 in the second quarter.

Ako Kaluna led all scorers with 24 points and had 17 rebounds for West Ranch. Lewis Stallworth scored 18 points and was the top scorer for Hart.

The West Ranch girls basketball team made it a clean sweep at Hart, beating the Indians, 53-27.

The Canyon boys basketball team beat Golden Valley, 79-72. Ben Taufahema scored 20 points with five 3-pointers to lead Canyon.

The Canyon girls beat Golden Valley, 50-39. Alia McCoy scored 20 points for Canyon.

The Valencia girls beat Saugus, 63-35. Sandra Ikeora scored 18 points and had 14 rebounds for Valencia.

In high school soccer, the Saugus and Valencia girls played to a scoreless draw in their Foothill League opener.

Maddie Hebert made six saves in goal for Saugus, which remained unbeaten at 15-0-1. The Centurions recorded their 11th shutout of the season.

Nicole Joseph made four saves in goal for Valencia.

The West Ranch boys shut out Hart, 2-0. Jake Hirst and Wade McMillon scored first-half goals for West Ranch.

The Valencia boys beat Saugus, 3-1. Zack Klindworth had a goal and an assist for Valencia.

In college basketball, The Master’s College women beat Hope International, 94-47, in the Golden State Athletic Conference opener for the Lady Mustangs.

The Master’s College women, ranked No. 8 in the NAIA, are undefeated at 14-0. Zoe Scott led the Lady Mustangs in scoring with 21 points and made five 3-pointers.

The Master’s College men lost to Hope International, 73-66. Devin Dyer led the Mustangs with 16 points.

In the NBA, the Lakers lost to the Houston Rockets, 125-112. It was the fourth loss in a row for the Lakers, who played without injured Dwight Howard, Pau Gasol and Jordan Hill.

Steve Nash had 10 assists and became the fifth player in NBA history to record 10,000 assists in his career.
