The Master's College Women's Basketball Team Off To Best Start In School History

The Master’s College women’s basketball team blew out UC Merced, 87-49, in the final game of the Jersey Mike’s Holiday Classic to remain undefeated.

The Lady Mustangs, ranked No. 13 in the NAIA, are 11-0 and off to the best start in school history. Niclole Nitake scored 15 points off the bench and made five 3-pointers. Four players from The Master’s College scored in double figures.

The Lady Mustangs take their undefeated record on the road against Cal State San Marcos tonight.

The Master’s College men beat Bethesda of Maryland, 77-67. Derrick Fain scored 28 points and made seven 3-pointers to lead the Mustangs.

In high school soccer, the Hart boys and girls teams won the championships of the Hart Showcase tournament.

The Hart boys shut out Valencia, 1-0, to repeat as champions of the Hart Soccer Showcase. David Knopf scored the lone goal of the game on a 65-yard free kick in the first half.

The Hart girls shut out Quartz Hill, 3-0, to also repeat as champions of the Hart Showcase. Sophia Cortes scored two second-half goals for Hart.

Michaela Rickard gave Hart a 1-0 lead early in the first half. Cortes put Hart up 2-0 with a goal in the 42nd minute. Her goal in the 59th minute gave Hart a 3-0 lead.

The Saugus girls won the Los Tacos Holiday Tournament in Glendale, beating host Flintridge Sacred Heart, 5-4 on penalty kicks, in the championship match.

The two teams played to a 1-1 draw in regulation. Leah Eldridge scored for Saugus off a rebounded save to tie the score with six minutes to play in the second half.

The Centurions are unbeaten at 12-0-2.

In high school basketball, the Hart boys won their own Holiday Classic tournament, 72-56, over Glendale in the championship game.

Lewis Stallworth scored 22 points and was selected at the tournament MVP. Hart is undefeated at 15-0.

The Valencia girls beat Palisades, 49-32, in the West Coast Holiday Festival Invitational Division. Kalia Summerlin scored 11 points and was selected to the all-tournament team. Sandra Ikeora led the Vikings with 14 points and 14 rebounds.

The West Ranch girls beat Hawthorne, 46-31, in the West Coast Holiday Festival Gold Division. Whitney Branham scored 18 points to lead the Wildcats.

The Canyon girls lost to Bishop Amat, 40-30, in the third-place game of the West Coast Holiday Festival Invitational Division. Jaya Schultz scored nine points to lead Canyon.

In college football, Stanford beat Wisconsin, 20-14, in the Rose Bowl.

In the NBA, the Clippers lost to the Denver Nuggets, 92-78, ending their 17-game winning streak.

The Lakers lost to the visiting Philadelphia 76ers, 103-99, at Staples Center.
