A new e-book, “Can’t Forgive: My Twenty-Year Battle with O.J. Simpson,” details how Kim Goldman, of Santa Clarita, handles grief in the aftermath of her brother’s violent murder. Simpson, a former NFL and film star, was acquitted of murdering Nicole Brown Simpson and Kim’s brother, Ronald Goldman, in 1995, then found liable for the deaths in a civil trial in 1997. “I think people talk about forgiveness as part of the grieving process because they don’t understand what you go through,” Goldman said, discussing the title. “For me, there really is no opportunity to forgive -- he stabbed my brother to death -- it’s just not possible for me.”

UPDATE: Santa Clarita Officials Receive Signatures For Billboard Referendum

The opposition to a Santa Clarita-Metro deal to bring three large, two-sided electronic billboards next to Interstate 5 and Highway 14 and take down 118 smaller ones throughout the city claims it has what it needed Friday -- a whole lot of signatures. A Facebook post Friday by Citizens Against Billboard Blight read: “WE WON AND HAVE THE NUMBERS.” On Sunday, the group reported in a news release to have 18,000 signatures in support of their referendum, which seeked to halt a billboard deal proposed by Metro. A billboard lobbying group and Santa Clarita residents opposed to the city’s agreement with Metro and subcontractor Allvision -- to create billboards and more than $100 million in advertising revenue next to Interstate 5 and Highway 14 -- began a referendum April 3 to try and stop the deal. The deadline passes Monday, May 5, 30 days after the time the petition was certified by the Santa Clarita City Clerk’s Office.

Santa Clarita American Legion Veteran Group Names New Leaders

American Legion Post 507, a Santa Clarita-based organization supporting veterans of foreign wars, named a new commander Thursday. Jeanine “Tootsie” Imperial was named the new commander, and former SCV Man of the Year Greg Nutter will remain first vice commander, according to J.D. Kennedy, who led the local chapter of the nation’s largest wartime-service veterans organization for the last two years. “We’re chartered by Congress to help veterans get benefits,” Kennedy said. “We do that in many different ways -- we file the paperwork, assist veterans with access to their federal and state benefits -- but Post 507 has also worked with local businesses, the city, and other organizations to better serve veterans with any immediate needs they may have.”
