    COC Student Arrested With Loaded Gun In Class

    A College of the Canyons student was arrested on campus Friday for carrying a loaded gun to class. Another student noticed something large bulging from under the clothes of the suspect, and immediately notified campus security.

    When asked why the student was carrying a weapon to the campus, the student claimed he needed it for protection. The student was arrested by Santa Clarita sheriffs.

    Cheri Fleming Among Finalists For Dealer Of The Year

    Valencia Acura named as a finalist for for this prestigious award.
    (AIADA) announced this week that Cheri Fleming of Valencia Acura in Valencia, CA, is among ten finalists for the prestigious 2006 Dealer of the Year Award, presented by Newsweek. An annual award, the Dealer of the Year program honors the tremendous contributions the nation's international nameplate auto dealers make as outstanding small-business men and women and as citizens dedicated to community service and the betterment of the industry.

    Richman Names KHTS 2006 Small Business of the Year!

                Assemblyman Keith Richman today named KHTS the Small Business of the Year from the 38th Assembly District.  The annual program recognizes successful small businesses that make substantial contributions to their communities.

              

    Hispanic Business Expo Happening Tomorrow

    The Hispanic Business Committee and the SCV Chamber of Commerce are kicking off the First Annual Hispanic Business EXPO on Saturday, May 13 from 10am to 4pm.  The event will be held at the City of Santa Clarita Community Center 22421 Market St., Newhall 91321. Come and enjoy great food, entertainment, music and vendors from the SCV Chamber of Commerce Membership.

    Dodgers Lose 4-2

    The Dodgers wrapped up their series against the Houston Astros with a loss at home, 4 to 2. The Dodgers are back in action Friday night and on the air on KHTS at 6:30pm as they kick off a three game series against the San Francisco Giants.

    Literacy Mission To Nicaragua

    Mission to Nicaragua to help improve literacy and education.

    “A book is a gift you can open again and again” were the words of American writer Garrison Keillor.

    This summer the Santa Clarita Valley community will be able to share the gift of reading by joining efforts with the Literacy Mission to Nicaragua to help improve literacy and education by establishing libraries in five northern villages in that country. The Literacy mission will take place this August at the end of the College of the Canyons study abroad trip to Central America.
