    Quail Fire Update: Monday Morning

    The Quail Fire, which originated near Gorman Sunday, has burned over 4,000 acres and is currently 60 percent contained, according to fire officials. Full containment on the fire is expected sometime Monday evening. One firefighter sustained minor injuries while battling the fire, and was treated for heat exhaustion and released. At one time over 100 structures were threatened, and 2 out buildings were damaged but not destroyed. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation.

    Brush Fire Scorches Hundreds of Acres Near Gorman

    A large brush fire north of Gorman swept through dry brush near Interstate 5, burning hundreds of acres. Approximately 300 firefighters continue to work on bringing the fire under full containment.

    Dodgers Sweep Giants, Win 1-0

    The Dodgers Beat the Giants in 10 innings Sunday night, 1-0. Our next Dodger game against the Marlins will be on the air Monday at 6:30pm.

    Dodgers Win 6-5

    On Saturday afternoon, the Dodgers defeated the Giants 6-5. Tune to KHTS on Sunday at 4:30pm, when the Dodgers will take on the Giants in the final game of this series.

    Dodgers Slip by Giants 3-2

    The Dodgers displayed the defensive edge Friday night as they defeated the arch-rival Giants 3-2. Jeff Kent had a home-run, which helped secure the victory. Barry Bonds had a base hit and was walked three times. The Dodgers play the Giants again on Saturday at noon. Tune into KHTS for all the action.

    Runner Authors Two Governor’s Bills in Special Session

    Legislation would Build New Prisons, Reentry Facilities and Officer Training Facility
    As a part of the special session Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger called to address the issue of prison overcrowding and recidivism, Senator George Runner (R-Antelope Valley) is introducing two of the Governor's proposals to address these issues.  Runner is a leader on public safety issues and will serve as a member of the Select Committee on Prison Population, Management and Capacity committee, which will be holding hearings on the proposals.

    Antonovich Calls Federal Grant for Palmdale Regional Airport Vital Step Forward

    PALMDALE - The United States Department of Transportation has awarded a $900,000 Small Community Air Service Development grant to the "Wheels Up Palmdale" coalition supporting the Palmdale Regional Airport. "This vital step forward to establish commercial air service at Palmdale Regional Airport illustrates the Federal Government's confidence in the viability of the airport's future success," said Michael D.

    COC Board Of Trustees Votes For Bond

    The Santa Clarita Community College District Board of Trustees voted Wednesday evening, August 9, to put a $160 million bond measure to fund badly needed college classrooms, labs and other facilities needs on the November 7, 2006 general election ballot.  The vote was unanimous (4-0). “This is a firm statement,” said Board president Bruce Fortine, “that this Board is convinced a significant need exists at College of the Canyons for more classrooms, labs, safety improvements and technology upgrades.

    Dodgers Win 4-3

    On Thursday night, the Dodgers were tied at three with the Colorado Rockies, until Kenny Lofton came to the plate in the bottom of the ninth and hit a clutch single to win it for the Blue Crew, 4-3. You can hear the Dodgers open up a three-game series with the San Francisco Giants, Friday at 7:00pm on KHTS.

    Sheriff’s to Conduct D.U.I. Checkpoint This Friday

    The Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station will be conducting a D.U.I. Checkpoint on Friday 08-11-06 from 1900 hours through 0300 hours on Saturday morning. The goal of the checkpoint is to educate the community on the hazards of drunken driving while enforcing the D.U.I. laws of the State of California. The checkpoint is an ongoing attempt to safely remove drunken drivers from our streets. The location off the checkpoint will address concerns based on D.U.I. activity in that area.
