Their company had taken off from a small, mom and pop delivery service, into an international logistics company, with franchises rolling out throughout the nation.     Los Angeles County Opens Two Cooling Centers in Santa Clarita Valley

    Los Angeles — Continued extreme temperatures and power outages threaten the safety of seniors and others who face heat-related health difficulties and stress. Los Angeles County Mayor Michael D. Antonovich has directed County departments to open two Santa Clarita Valley facilities to serve as “cooling centers” for those in need of relief from the heat and humidity.   These cooling centers are open now at:

    Kings Sign Forward Sean Avery to One-Year Contract

    Conservation Critical Today to Avoid Blackouts

    More conservation is needed as peak demand skyrockets to a critical point today. Californians are asked to conserve electricity at peak by:
     
    *   Turning off unneeded lights, computers and appliances.
    *   Setting air conditioner (if you use one) thermostats to 82° F when home and 85° F or off when away.
    *   Using major appliances after 7 p.m.
     
    The California Independent System Operator (ISO), the nonprofit organization that manages the state's electricity grid, issued the Flex Alert, stating:
