    State Route 138 Lane Closures for Paving, 9/11 – 9/15; Delays Expected

    East of Gorman -- As part of a five-mile asphalt paving project, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will perform lane closures on eastbound and westbound State Route 138 from 280th Street West to Old Ridge Route Road, about five miles east of Gorman.
    During the following hours, one lane of State Route 138 will be open and will be utilized for both eastbound and westbound traffic, alternately. Motorists may experience delays of up to 30 minutes.

    McKeon To Host 9/11 Tribute

    Rep. Howard P. "Buck" McKeon (R-CA) announced he will join with officials, residents and first responders from throughout the Santa Clarita area to hold a memorial commemorating the 5th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

    Chamber PAC Gears Up For Nov. 7th Elections

    Ortiz-Runner Bill To Create Separate Department of Public Health

    Legislation by Senate Health Committee Chair Deborah Ortiz (D-Sacramento) and Senate Health Committee Vice Chair George Runner (R-Antelope Valley) to create a separate California Department of Public Health was overwhelmingly approved by the Legislature and sent to the Governor. The State Assembly approved the bill, 79-0; the State Senate concurred with amendments on a 34-2 vote.


    Excelencia Awards Gala Spotlights Hispanic Students and Business

    Outstanding Hispanic High School Seniors and several businesses that support the local Hispanic community will be recognized at the Third Annual Excelencia Awards GALA, sponsored by the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce, on Sept. 8 at the Hyatt Valencia.

    Fire Burns 15 Acres Near Castaic

    A fire was reported Monday, around 12:00pm, near Castaic and south-bound along the 5 freeway. The fire was knocked down around 1:00pm and burned 15-20 acres. At this time it is unknown how the fire began.

    I-5 Lane Closures

    The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will close the following lanes of the Golden

    State Freeway (I-5), as part of a $41.6-million project to construct High Occupancy Vehicle, (HOV), or

    carpool lanes, on northbound and southbound I-5 from State Route 118 to State Route 14:
