    Santa Clarita Chamber Supports Prop 42

    The Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce voted to support the Prop 42 loophole at their July board meeting.

    Local Firefighter Raises Money for Fallen Comrades

    Friday, July 28th, 2006 at 2 pm, at Fire Station 126, Fire Chief P. Michael Freeman will present an award to local Fire Captain Hall Stratton for his efforts to raise money for injured and fallen firefighters. Fire Station 126 is located at 26320 Citrus Street in Valencia.

    McKeon to Testify on Behalf of Eastern Sierra Rural Heritage Bill

    On Thursday, July 27th, Rep. Howard P. "Buck" McKeon (R-CA) is scheduled to appear before a hearing of the House Resources Committee's Subcommittee on Forests and Forest Health to testify on behalf of his bill, HR 5149, the Eastern Sierra Rural Heritage and Economic Enhancement Act.

    The Board of Directors of the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce voted to oppose Prop 87, the Oil Tax Initiative on the November 2006 Ballot.

    Los Angeles County Opens Two Cooling Centers in Santa Clarita Valley

    Los Angeles — Continued extreme temperatures and power outages threaten the safety of seniors and others who face heat-related health difficulties and stress. Los Angeles County Mayor Michael D. Antonovich has directed County departments to open two Santa Clarita Valley facilities to serve as “cooling centers” for those in need of relief from the heat and humidity.   These cooling centers are open now at:

    Plane Crashes In Santa Clara River

    At approximately 12:15pm a small plane made an emergency landing in the Santa Clara riverbed in Canyon Country.
