    Runner's Community College Bills Are Signed By Governor

    Legislation Will Provide Students More Access to Classes
    Community college legislation authored by Senator George Runner (R-Antelope Valley) was signed by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger late last week.  The measures will greatly benefit community college students.
    "California's community colleges are vital to our educational system. These new laws support community colleges and provide opportunities for more students to access classes," said Runner. 

    Kings Officially Set Roster for 2006-08 NHL Season

    LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Kings have announced their 23-man player roster for the 2006-07 season.
    Center Alyn McCauley (off-season knee surgery) and defenseman Richard Petiot (knee sprain during the 2006 Rookie Tournament) have been placed on the injured reserve list to start the season.  McCauley is officially a non-roster player. The following is a look at the Kings' 23-man player roster:

    McKeon Honored for Record on Pro-Growth, Pro-Job Issues

    WASHINGTON, D.C., October 3, 2006-Representative Buck McKeon (R-CA-25)
    has been awarded the National Association of Manufacturers Award for Manufacturing Legislative Excellence in recognition of his continued support of American manufacturers and a pro-growth, pro-job agenda.           

    Huge Power Outage Affects Over 100,000 Homes And Businesses

    At approximately 3:00pm a Southern California Edison transformer blew out at the I-5 and Highway 14 split.  The blown transformer caused a massive power outage in the Santa Clarita Valley.

    The power outage affected over 130,000 homes and businesses.  This also took out many traffic lights at some of the busiest intersections in the valley causing massive traffic jams.  At approximately 5:00pm power was out in 22,500 households and businesses primarily in the Newhall area.

    Antonovich Motion Increases Treatment Resources for Homeless Mentally Ill

    Passed unanimously by the Board of Supervisors, a motion by Los Angeles County Mayor Michael D. Antonovich allocates nearly $5 million dollars for a pilot program increasing transitional treatment services for homeless mentally ill released from hospitals, jails or courts.
    "Long-term solutions and effective treatment will help replace a broken system of warehousing without healing," said Antonovich.  "This requires a systematic approach to assist chronically homeless transition directly into permanent, service-linked independent living arrangements,"

    I-5 Lane Closure 10/2 – 10/6

    Caltrans will close the one lane of the southbound Golden State Freeway (I-5) from Templin Highway to Lake Hughes Road, as follows, in order to perform guardrail repair:
    ·     Daily beginning Monday, October 2 through Friday, October 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
    This closure is weather-permitting and subject to change.  Caltrans thanks motorists for their patience and cooperation during these repairs. Caltrans reminds motorists to PLEASE, SLOW FOR THE CONE ZONE.
