    Commission Approves Antonovich Dental Health And Nutrition Initiative

    LOS ANGELES COUNTY -- The First 5 LA Commission has allocated $10 million to fund a program sponsored by Los Angeles County Mayor Michael D. Antonovich to enhance dental health and nutrition for young children and their families in Los Angeles County.

    Alarcon and Runner to Announce Coalition to Expand Palmdale Airport

    Today Senator George Runner (R-Antelope Valley) and Senator Richard Alarcon (D-San Fernando Valley) announce the formation of the Coalition to Explore the Development of a New Regional Airport in Palmdale.  This coalition is made up of San Fernando Valley leaders and will be focused on developing Palmdale as Southern California's new regional airport.

    L.A. County Fire To Conduct Helicopter Test At Pitchess

    Thursday, October 12th, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. weather, air quality, and fuel conditions permitting, the County of Los Angeles Fire Department will conduct testing of a helicopter engine on the property of the Pitchess Detention Center/Wayside Honor Rancho. This is a Los Angeles County Sheriff facility located in Santa Clarita. This test burn will be in a very controlled setting and will not involve burning of brush piles, less than one acre.  

    Eagle Scouts Sparks, Wirthlin and Barlow Honored

    Stephen Wirthlin, Nathanial Sparks and William Barlow were honored for achieving their Eagle Scout awards at the October 14, 2006 Court of  Honor at the Sand Canyon building of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.   Their Eagle projects included a blood drive right after Hurricane Katrina, a food bank drive and creating dental care packages for under privileged children.   Eagle Scouts must complete at least 21 merit badges, actively participate in scouting including leadership as well as complete an extensive
