    City Calling on Artists

    The City of Santa Clarita, Arts and Events Office and the Santa Clarita Arts Advisory Commission is calling all artists to commission artwork for the California Bear Project. The artwork will be on display in the City of Santa Clarita at a prominent location during a cultural festival or recreational event for the AMGEN Tour of California, which will be in Santa Clarita on Saturday, February 24, 2007.  

    Canyon Pep Rally Tonight!

    Canyon High School’s CIF Champion football team will play for the state championship against De La Salle of Concord tomorrow night. But before the big game, Route 66 Classic Grill is hosting a pep rally for the team from 5:00 to 9:00pm tonight, and you can join in the fun as we wish our Cowboys well.

    5 Antelope Valley Suspects Caught in SCV Operation

    An incident in the Antelope Valley caused suspects to flee the area last night, and they came over the hill into Santa Clarita.

    Sheriff’s Deputies believed that the suspects were in the area, and dispatched units, resulting in the arrest of five people.

    The operation shut down the 14 freeway for a small amount of time, and the people in custody were transported back to the Antelope Valley.

    Join Santa Clarita for the Rose Parade!

    The City of Santa Clarita invites residents to celebrate the New Year at Pasadena's 118th annual Tournament of Roses Parade on Monday, January 1, 2007.

    With the aroma of colorful flowers decorating enormous floats, the parade will be a memorable event that you won't want to miss. Grandstand seats are available along the parade route for ultimate viewing during the entire parade. 

    Tickets, which are $90 per person, may be purchased through the City’s Recreation Department.  Registration ends at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 21, 2006.

    Who is the woman with the center seat on the City Council now? Marsha McLean took over as Mayor of Santa Clarita on Tuesday, and with her position as head of the city will come an opportunity to work on some of the projects she considers important.

    Local Teen Girls to Represent California in Boxing Match

    Two participants from the Santa Clarita Community Center Boxing Program have been invited to represent the State of California in their respective weight divisions at the Regional Championships on January 4, 2007, in Norwalk, CA.Marlene Castro and Joana Pereyda, both ages 14, competed at the Long Beach Police Athletic League (PAL) Center on Sunday, December 4, 2006, and won the California State Silver Gloves.

    Nominees for Business of the Year Announced

    The Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce has announced the nominees for Business of the Year. This prestigious award is designated for businesses that operate above and beyond similar sized companies, and there are awards for three categories: Small, Medium and Large businesses. Some of the nominees include: For small businesses: Plumbing by Kirk and Choppe’ Advertising. For Medium Businesses: KHTS AM 1220, Mercedes of Valencia and SCV Bank. Winners in each respective category will be announced January 19th.

    Magic Mountain Parkway Name May Disappear

    The City of Santa Clarita is currently exploring the option of changing the street name of Magic Mountain Parkway, east of Interstate 5, and Creekside Road to reflect more auto-related names. The request came from the Santa Clarita Auto Dealers Association in hopes of increasing auto sales as well as visibility of the Auto Mall from Interstate 5 by increasing exposure to potential regional customers who might drive to Santa Clarita to purchase vehicles.
