    Seniors Beware: Thieves Use Distraction To Rob

    A pair of suspects have been targeting female senior citizens in local supermarkets in the Santa Clarita Valley, prompting Sheriffs officials to caution seniors to take extra care while grocery shopping.


    New Sheriff Captain Formally Introduced

    The new captain of the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s station Anthony La Berge was officially presented by the city at last night’s council meeting.


    Captain Anthony La Berge steps into a position City Manager Ken Pulskamp calls; “basically, Santa Clarita’s Chief of Police.”

    La Berge has a history of service that is as long as it is distinguished. It includes being the captain at the office of Homeland Security dealing with transit issues, as well as being apart of the Special Enforcement Bureau, which is essentially the SWAT team for the Sheriff’s Department.

    In the first night of Foothill League Boys Basketball play, it was the Hart Indians earning a victory over the Saugus Centurions 61-52.  In other action, Valencia beat West Ranch 89-62 and Canyon defeated Golden Valley 71-33.  Tune in to KHTS on Friday night beginning at 6:15pm, when you can hear more exciting Santa Clarita Boys Basketball action.

    Deputy March's Suspected Killer Now In Sheriff's Custody

    Deputy David March, a veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department was just doing his job when he pulled over a Nissan Maxima nearly five years ago. The driver of the car then got out, and shot Deputy March, killing him.


    David March was a resident of Santa Clarita, and word of his tragic murder shocked the city.

    What’s even worse is that his suspected killer fled to Mexico, where he was able to stay free until an arrest 11 months ago.

    Caltrans To Close More Lanes This Week

    The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will close the following lanes of the Golden State Freeway (I-5), as part of a $41.6-million project to construct High Occupancy Vehicle, (HOV), or carpool lanes, on northbound and southbound I-5 from State Route 118 to State Route 14:


    Smyth Moves District Office to Valencia

    Assemblyman Cameron Smyth, R-Santa Clarita, today announced that he has moved his District Office to Santa Clarita effective January 6.


    “I am very pleased to bring my District Office to the population center of the 38th Assembly District as well as my hometown,” Smyth said.  “The office’s excellent location will allow me to best meet the needs and concerns of my constituents.” 


    The new District Office is located directly across from the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station, Valencia Library and just two blocks from Santa Clarita City Hall.


    Kings Lose 2-1 in OT

    The Los Angeles Kings lost Monday night to the Edmonton Oilers after a 1-1 tie sent them into overtime. Jan Hejda had the winning score just over a minute into overtime to cap the win for Edmonton.
