    Kings Lose to Dallas 2-1

    In a rare Monday afternoon game, the Los Angeles Kings fell to the Dallas Stars 3-1.  You can hear the Kings take on the Atlanta Thrashers, Tuesday beginning at 3:30pm on KHTS.

    County Officials Raise Awareness For Human Trafficking

    ImageLos Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich joined Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley, Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca, Paul Nissan, Executive Director, of the “National Human Trafficking Awareness Day,” and a broad coalition of local leaders, law enforcement, faith-based groups and community organizations to raise public awareness and expand efforts to combat human trafficking.

    City Urges Community To Celebrate MLK

    At the January 9th City Council meeting, the council passed a proclamation urging all members of the community to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. 

    This year it falls on Monday, January 15th.

     

    Many people in Santa Clarita remember Martin Luther King Day not only for the great man whose life we celebrate, but also because the 1994 earthquake happened on that day.

     

    LA King's Visnovsky An NHL All-Star

    Los Angeles Kings defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky has been
    selected to play for the Western Conference All-Star squad at the 2007
    NHL All-Star Game in Dallas on Wednesday, January 24, at 5 p.m. PT, the
    NHL announced. Kings rookie center Anze Kopitar will also travel
    to Dallas to represent the Western Conference in the YoungStars Game,
    set for Tuesday, January 23, at 4:30 PT.  Both events are scheduled to
    take place at the American Airlines Center.

    Kings Lose in St. Louis

    The Los Angeles Kings Lose 6 to 5 against the Blues.

     

    It was close but by the end of the 3rd period, the Blues skated away with a 6 to 5 win over the Kings.

     

    Tune to AM-1220 KHTS on Monday at 12:30 pm when the Kings will face off against the Dallas Stars.

    Car Fire On I-5 Spreads, Shuts Down Freeway

    Late last night, a car traveling on the I-5 freeway near Calgrove Blvd crashed and caught fire. The fire spread to brush on the side of the road, forcing a closure of the I-5 freeway for about an hour.

      

    This all happened just before 11:00 Friday night, and the freeway was shut down until midnight.

     

    A Sheriff's Department officer working at the scene fell and suffered a broken hip.

    Golden Valley Knocks Off West Ranch In Overtime

    On Friday night, the Golden Valley boys varsity basketball team defeated the West Ranch Wildcats 62-60 in overtime.

    Workshops To Help Job Seekers

    The Santa Clarita WorkSource offers a number of workshops each month to assist customers (job seekers) in their job search.

     

     Workshops are facilitated by partners and peers from Goodwill Southern California, College of the Canyons, the City of Santa Clarita, L.A. County Office of Education (GAIN), the State of California Employment Development Department (EDD), CNH Lending & Financial Services, and Pre-Paid Legal Services. 

    Emancipated Foster Youth Motion Passes County Board

    The Board of Supervisors has unanimously approved a motion by Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich directing County departments to work with the State legislative delegation to sponsor legislation that provides enhanced services and financial support to emancipated foster youth between the ages of 18 and 21 years.

     

    Each year, more than 4,000 youths emancipate from California ’s foster care system – nearly 1,500 in Los Angeles County .
