    Local Lawyer Involved In Anna Nicole Smith Case

    Local Lawyer Rick Patterson of Owen, Patterson and Owen, is working on the Anna Nicole Smith paternity case that has grabbed headlines all over the United States.

    Patterson assisted Jim Nevitt, who is the attorney for Howard K Stern. Stern is currently listed on the birth certificate as the father of Anna Nicole Smith’s baby.

     

    Rick Patterson assisted in preparing opposition to the request from another alleged father, Larry Birkhead, that a DNA test be performed on the child to determine who the father is.

    Public Hearing Set On Rising Textbook Prices

    In June 2006, U.S. Representatives Howard P. "Buck" McKeon (R-CA) and David Wu (D-OR) asked the Advisory Committee on Student Financial Assistance to conduct a one-year study with three objectives:

     

    • To investigate further the problem of rising textbook prices.
    • To determine the impact of rising textbook prices on students’ ability to afford a postsecondary education
    • To make recommendations to Congress, the Secretary, and other stakeholders on what can be done to make textbooks more affordable for students.

    County Board Gives Money To Mentally Ill Vets

    The Board of Supervisors approved a Federal grant for nearly $850,000 to provide for the mental health needs of homeless veterans with serious mental illness.

    Union Bank Of California Robbed

    This morning, the Stevenson Ranch Union Bank of California was robbed. Witnesses say that four black males committed the crime, and then sped away in a Burgundy Lincoln sedan.One witness was reportedly following the suspects, but told deputies that upon turning a corner, the suspects had ditched the Lincoln near the freeway.

     

    Deputies believe that this was a getaway car, and that the suspects had another car waiting at that location.

     

    It is thought that the getaway car is a rental, and it was reported stolen.

     

    Runner Named Legislator Of The Year

    ImageSenator George Runner (R-Antelope Valley) was recognized for his work and commitment to improving access and opportunity for Californians by the California Community College Trustees which named him 2006 Legislator of the Year.

    Canyon Beats Hart 59-48

    In a game heard live on KHTS, the Canyon Cowboys Boys Basketball team beat the Hart Indians 59-48, in the final game of the regular season.  Tune in to KHTS on Tuesday night, when you can hear a first round basketball playoff game.

    Kings Lose 4-3

    On Thursday night, the Kings lost to the Washington Capitals 4-3 in overtime.  You can hear the next Kings game as they take on the Nashville Predators, Saturday at 4:30pm on KHTS.

    Driving down the winding heavily traveled Sand Canyon road provides a challenging course to navigate. Young children on their way to the bus stop, bikers, joggers, walkers, along the narrow roadway become potential victims.

    These days, charities aren’t just about donating money. Sure, money goes from you to a good cause; however it almost doesn’t seem like you’re just giving it away. The fact is, charities have gotten really good at planning events that are good not only for the organization, but a whole lot of fun for the donors as well.
     

    And that’s not a bad thing. In fact, it’s incredibly clever, and it opens the door for events to actually be more successful for everyone involved.
