    Evening of Remembrance

    Youth Remembered at the Youth Grove on Thursday, May 10, 2007

    The City of Santa Clarita and the Blue Ribbon Task Force will host the 2nd Annual “Evening of Remembrance” on Thursday, May 10, 2007, at 7:15 p.m. to remember Santa Clarita Valley youth who died in traffic-related collisions. The event will be held at the Youth Grove in Central Park, located at 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road.

     

    The program will include songs and readings, and will be highlighted by a reading of the names of the 69 youth who are included in this memorial.

    Fire Burns Eight Acres

    Latest blaze hits Castaic

    ImageA fire broke out in Castaic at around 4:00pm this evening, one mile north of Lake Hughes Road, on the west side of the I-5 freeway.

     

    The fire burned 8 acres before it was doused by fire crews.

     

    No structures were damaged in the fire, although the fire did mark the third such incident in Santa Clarita in the last two days.

    City Prepares For Bike To Work Challenge

    Residents invited to peddle with the Mayor.

    The City of Santa Clarita is inviting local residents to join California State Assemblyman Cameron Smyth and Mayor Marsha McLean on Friday, May 11th, at 10:00 a.m. at City Hall for a special Bike to Work Day Kick-off event.

     

    The event will include information about all the bike elements within the City including details about the City's Bike to Work Day challenge, tips on preparing for Bike to Work Day, and bike safety demonstrations.

    Emergency Responders To SCV: Pull To The Right

    Simple act of pulling to the right can save a life.

    When an emergency strikes, time is absolutely of the essence. Quite frankly, minutes and even seconds can mean the difference between a person living or dying.

     

    The city of Santa Clarita has many traffic problems that already hinder emergency responders from getting to their destination. Cars that do not pull over to the right when an emergency vehicle is coming cause even more problems.

     

    Special Olympics Torch Gets Lit By Fire Dept

    Fundraiser brings a whole new meaning to tipping.

    Wednesday night, May 9th, all are invited to Buca Di Beppo off of Town Center Drive to eat, drink, and make a difference.

     

    Firefighters from around Santa Clarita and beyond will be teaming up with the wait staff at the restaurant to try to pull in tip money that will be given to the Special Olympics.

     

    Donation envelopes will be at the tables for patrons to contribute if they wish.

     

    Attentive Deputies Nab Burglars

    Deputies arrest armed burglary suspects in stolen vehicle.

    According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Deputies Dorman and Christensen of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff Station's Community Interaction Team (CIT) spotted a vehicle in the 24300 block of Newhall Avenue and immediately recognized it as matching the description given in a burglary incident that occurred earlier in the day in the 27300 block of North Evi Lane, in Canyon Country.

     

    Providence Staff Honored For Advancing Medicine

    Providence Holy Cross and Providence St. Joseph have both been recently rated “Superior” by CalHospitalCompare.com.

     

    Hospital officials say that the care they provide is a result of physicians, administrators, clinical and non clinical staff, working with cutting edge technology.

     

    Two members of Providence’s staff have been recognized for doing just that.

     

    Sheriff's Cadets Run In Remembrance

    “Colors Run” honors fallen deputy.

    This morning, 72 members of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Academy North joined with over 50 Sheriff’s Department personnel and supporters to run for their colors.

     

    The run began at College of the Canyons, and winded along Rockwell Canyon Road, up McBean Parkway, to the Deputy Hagop “Jake” Kuredjian memorial in Stevenson Ranch.

     

    At the memorial, a small prayer service was held by the Sheriff’s Department Chaplain.
