    Metro And Santa Clarita Transit Join Forces For Bus Link

    A much needed commuter bus link between Santa Clarita and the San Fernando Valley will debut Sunday, March 5, with daily service from the McBean Transfer Station in Santa Clarita to the Sylmar Metrolink Station in the Valley. The new Route 8 bus will run on a seven-day schedule with buses departing about every 30 minutes, weekdays from 5:50 a.m. to 9:45 p.m., Saturdays from 6:20 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. and Sundays from 7:20 a.m. to 7:45 p.m.

    Providence Holy Cross Administrator Kerry Carmody Appointed To Homeland Security

    Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa today appointed Providence Holy Cross Medical Center Administrator Kerry Carmody to the Mayor’s 41-member Homeland Security Advisory Team. Carmody is the only private hospital representative on the diverse team.

    Suspect Wanted For Attempted Rape Caught

    A suspect wanted for the attempted rape of a 12 year old girl is caught.The suspect, Marcus Fennell Pierce, was apprehended earlier today in the San Fernando Valley. Pierce was wanted in connection with the attempted rape and battery of his 12 year old niece on Monday in Canyon Country. Police received reports that Pierce may have been hiding out in a motel, and had the area under surveillance. Once found, the suspect was brought into custody with no resistance. Sheriff's officials are holding a news conference today at 1:30pm in Whittier to discuss the details.

    Rep. Howard P. "Buck" McKeon (R-CA) was named Wednesday to serve as Chairman of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce.  The appointment was made after a vote by all of the Republican Members of the House pursuant to a recommendation of the House G.O.P. Steering Committee.

    Senator Runner Introduces Community College Bill Package

    Senator George Runner (R-Antelope Valley) has introduced a community college bill package that will provide more access to students and eliminate bureaucratic barriers for community college to acquire much-needed classroom and facility space. “California’s community colleges are vital to our educational system and we must ensure that students have better access to courses and community colleges are given all the tools necessary to acquire adequate classrooms and facilities,” said Senator George Runner (R-Antelope Valley).

    Transportation Development Plan

    The City of Santa Clarita’s Transit division is asking for the public’s help to update the City’s Transportation Development Plan.

    A public participation meeting will be held on March 18, 2006 at 11:00 am in the Century Conference Room at City Hall. Residents are invited to attend the meeting and share their concerns and ideas regarding the Santa Clarita Transit system. City Hall is located a 23920 Valencia Boulevard.

    Hart Defeats Santa Maria 83-61

    In tonight's high school basketball wildcard, the Hart Indians defeated the Saints of Santa Maria 83-61 in this CIF Division 1A playoff game. The Indians will play Ventura this Friday. Tune to AM-1220, KHTS this Friday at 7:15PM when Canyon High goes against Righetti.

    Antonovich Calls For High Security Housing and Staffing Level Changes to Stop Ja

    To prevent further violence in our County jails, a motion

    by Mayor Michael D. Antonovich calling on the Sheriff's Department to

    house high security inmates in appropriate facilities and improve

    staffing levels was approved by the Board of Supervisors.



    Antonovich's motion directed the Chief Administrative Officer to work

    with the Sheriff to:



    1. Place high security inmates in the state-of-the-art Twin Towers

    facility that currently houses women.
