    Open Space Initiative Passes

    After strong push by Council members, voters say yes.

    The votes are all tallied and the open space initiative that would provide the means for the city of Santa Clarita to buy and preserve undeveloped land in and around Santa Clarita has been given a green light. The open space initiative has passed by an overwhelming amount.  Nearly 70% of voters were in support of the initiative.

    Heat safety is the July feature for the City of Santa Clarita’s 12 months of Personal Preparedness.

    In Santa Clarita, temperatures exceeding 100 degrees are not uncommon during the summer and fall. During an average summer, some 200 people across the country die due to heat injuries from exposure to high summer temperatures.

    As of 4:30pm on Sunday afternoon, the fire department is cleaning up the remnants of a small brush fire burning in a portion of the Angeles National Forrest in Canyon Country, on Soledad Canyon Rd and Capra Rd.  The fire has burned 10 acres and no structures have been threatened.
