    City Ushers In Pride Week 2006

    Help keep the Santa Clarita Valley clean and beautiful! The City of Santa Clarita, along with numerous community sponsors, is present Pride Week 2006.

    This weeklong series of events begins on Sunday April 2, 2006 and continues through Saturday, April 8, 2006. Pride Week is an annual event, aimed at ridding the City of trash and giving local residents the opportunity to take an active part in keeping their neighborhoods clean. The week will begin with Community Clean-up Day, where residents can bring trash to four different sites (see below) and dispose of it free of charge.

    Stellar Women of Science Speak at COC

    College of the Canyons is offering its students another opportunity to study abroad this summer in Italy from July 5 to 16. For 12 days and 10 nights, students will be able to take Western Civilization I and II, U.S. History I and II, all while being immersed in the vibrant and picturesque cities of Florence, Venice, Rome, Naples and Pompeii. COC history professors Brad Reynolds and Robert Cleve will be the tour guides and instructors.

    Kings Lose 4-1

    The Los Angeles Kings lost 4-1 tonight against the number one rated Dallas Stars.  This is the Kings' third loss in a row.  King Sean Avery had the only shorthanded goal in the third period.  The Kings have a chance to redeem themselves this Saturday at 7pm against the St. Louis Blues.  Keep your dial tuned to Santa Clarita’s Hometown Station AM-1220 KHTS. 

    2006 Man and Woman of the Year Nominees Announced

    The 2006 Man and Woman of the Year Nominees were announced Thursday, celebrating individuals that donate their time and efforts to local causes in Santa Clarita.

    The men nominees are: Greg Amsler, Tom Barnett, Michael Berger, Elijah Canty, Rick Chambers, Wayne Crawford, Robert Fischer, Carl Goldman, Del Guyer and Greg Nutter.

    The women nominees are: Jeanna Crawford, Diana Cusumano, Peggy Edwards, Linda Hafizi, Cathie Kincheloe, Pamela Koch, Colleen Lee and Pat Saletore.

    Antonovich Calls for Review of Sheriff’s I.D. Policy

    The Board of Supervisors has unanimously approved Mayor Michael D. Antonovich’s motion directing the Chief Administrative Officer and County Counsel to review the County Code and the Sheriff’s current practices regarding the issuance of badges and Department photo identification cards to civilian volunteers. Recent reports indicate that badges, Department photo identification cards and official name tags have been issued by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to a number of civilian volunteers.

    Non-Conforming Business Sign To Be Removed By City

    Tomorrow, the City of Santa Clarita will begin removal of an electronic sign that is visible from the I-5, near Wiley Canyon Road and Calgrove Boulevard. The sign, which belongs to the Santa Clarita Athletic Club violates a city ordinance which regulates the size, height and lighting among other aspects of signs within the Santa Clarita city limits.

    On Monday night, the Kings lost to the Sharks 4-3.  You can hear more Kings action on KHTS, Tuesday at 7:00pm, when they will take on the Phoenix Coyotes.
