    Awards to Honor Local Advertising Excellence

    Creative genius. Intense competition. Gold statues.  The Oscars?   Nope, it’s the ADDYs. Sponsored by the American Advertising Federation, the ADDY Awards are the world’s largest and arguably toughest advertising competition.  And, for the first time ever, they’re coming to Santa Clarita, thanks to a newly formed professional group for those in the advertising industry. Formed in January, Advertising Professionals of North Los Angeles County (AdPros) is among the newest of the AAF’s 210 local affiliate chapters. 
      

    Interstate 5 in Castaic to Receive New Guard Rails

    After conducting a traffic investigation requested by Los Angeles County Mayor Michael D. Antonovich, Caltrans has announced that approximately 2,500 feet of new metal beam guard railing will be installed along Interstate 5 between Parker Road and Hasley Canyon Road in the Castaic area.

    Another Power Outage Hits Canyon Country

    Another power outage in Canyon Country impacts over 1400 customers...

    Southern California Edison reports a power outage affecting 1483 customers in the Canyon Country area of Santa Clarita. Power was lost at approximately 6:13pm, with the cause currently unknown. The power outage affects customers who live East of Sierra Highway, west of Sheldon, north of Grommon Way, and south of Sierra Highway.

    I-5 Freeway at Templin Highway – Storm Related Lane Closure

    Caltrans announces that one lane of the southbound Golden State Freeway (I-5) at Templin Highway will be closed at approximately 5 p.m. today, due to storm-related pavement damage.  Templin Highway is located approximately five miles north of Castaic along the southern portion of the Grapevine.
     
    Three southbound lanes and three northbound lanes of I-5 are open to motorists.  
     

    Independent Filmmaker Goes International

    Between grading student papers and projects, it is a wonder how College of the Canyons animation department chair Sheila Sofian manages to make time to feed her creative urges. But all the work has paid off, as her fifth independent film “A Conversation with Haris” has been invited to participate in Fundacia “La Caixa,” a contemporary art and animation exhibit in Spain and France during June 2006 until April 2007. “I am really excited and honored to have my film included in this exhibition among artists such as William Kentridge and Philip Hunt,” said Sofian.

    Runner Goes To D.C. To Fight For California Families

    Assemblywoman Sharon Runner’s (R-Lancaster) left for Washington DC today along with Assembly Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy and Assembly Republican Leader-Elect George Plescia to confer with federal leaders on issues facing California.

    Santa Clarita Pride Week April 2nd – 9th

    Take pride in your city.  The City of Santa Clarita presents ‘Pride Week’ Sunday April 2nd through Saturday April 9th.
     
    Clubs, organizations, youth groups and individuals are invited to participate in ‘Community Clean-up Day’ being held one day only, Saturday April 8th from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Trash bags and tee-shirts will be provided.
     
    Bins will be provided for free disposal of trash, scrap metal and scrap lumber at locations in Canyon Country, Newhall, Saugus and Valencia.
     

    Kings Lose 7-4

    On Monday night, Mark Parrish scored two goals for the Kings but it was not enough, as they fell to the Canucks 7-4.  You can hear the next Kings game on KHTS, Wednesday at 5:00pm, when they will take on the Calgary Flames.

    Lane Closures for I-5 Carpool Land Construction, 3/27 – 3/30

    Caltrans will close the following lanes of the Golden State Freeway (I-5), as part of a
    $41.6-million project to construct High Occupancy Vehicle, (HOV), or carpool lanes, on northbound and southbound I-5 from State Route 118 to State Route 14:
     
    DAILY -- MONDAY, MARCH 27 THROUGH THURSDAY, MARCH 30:
     
    5 a.m. to 2 p.m. – One lane of northbound I-5 from State Route 210 to State Route 14
    8 a.m. to 2 p.m. – One lane of northbound I-5 from I-405 to eastbound State Route 210 on-ramp
