Runner's Efficient School Construction Bills Killed In Committee By Union Lobby

Sacramento – Today, the Assembly Business and Professions Committee killed legislation authored by Assemblywoman Sharon Runner (R-Antelope Valley) to help streamline the bureaucratic school construction process.
“It is mind boggling to me how bills that will cut costs, save schools thousands and thousands of dollars, and streamline bureaucracy get voted down with virtually no debate, on a partisan line vote,” Runner said.  “This is a perfect example of the kind of strangle hold special interests still have on the Capitol.”

Homeless Spending Plan Includes Housing For Illegal Aliens

Los Angeles County Mayor Michael D. Antonovich criticized the County’s proposed $80 million homelessness spending plan for providing housing for illegal aliens who are not eligible to receive public assistance from the County’s Department of Public Social Services. In addition, Antonovich said that the proposal fails to provide sufficient mental health services to effectively address the root cause of homelessness or require community input or approval -- even though all of the County’s 88 cities and 134 unincorporated areas would be affected.
