NWS-- URGENT - FIRE WEATHER MESSAGE
RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING FOR GUSTY
NORTHEAST WINDS AND VERY LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY FOR THE MOUNTAINS
OF LOS ANGELES AND VENTURA COUNTIES INCLUDING THE SANTA MONICA
MOUNTAINS...AND THE SANTA CLARITA VALLEY...

A HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM ALOFT AND SURFACE HIGH PRESSURE OVER THE
GREAT BASIN WILL CONTINUE TO PRODUCE GUSTY OFFSHORE SANTA ANA
WINDS ACROSS THE AREA TODAY. THE WINDS WILL GRADUALLY DIMINISH
THROUGHOUT TONIGHT. THE STRONGEST WINDS WILL BE FOCUSED THROUGH
AND BELOW THE PASSES AND CANYONS OF THE LOS ANGELES AND VENTURA
COUNTY MOUNTAINS...WHERE GUSTS BETWEEN 30 AND 40 MPH WILL OCCUR.
IN THE VALLEYS...WIND GUSTS WILL GENERALLY RANGE BETWEEN 25 AND
35 MPH THROUGH EARLY THIS AFTERNOON.

WIDESPREAD SINGLE DIGIT HUMIDITIES CONTINUE ACROSS THE AREA THIS
MORNING WITH VERY POOR HUMIDITY RECOVERIES OCCURRING LAST NIGHT
ACROSS THE FOOTHILLS...MOUNTAINS...AND WIND EXPOSED LOCATIONS.
OFFSHORE WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO FURTHER DIMINISH TONIGHT AND INTO
WEDNESDAY...HOWEVER...WARM AND VERY DRY CONDITIONS WILL CONTINUE
TO BRING ELEVATED FIRE DANGER. LOCAL GUSTS IN THE 25 MPH TO 35
MPH RANGE CANNOT BE RULED ACROSS THE VALLEYS...FOOTHILLS...AND
MOUNTAINS.

* WINDS...NORTHEAST WINDS 10 TO 20 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 35 MPH
  WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THIS EVENING...THEN GRADUALLY DIMINISH
  THROUGH WEDNESDAY.

* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...WIDESPREAD SINGLE DIGIT READINGS WILL
  CONTINUE WILL OCCUR THROUGH AT LEAST THIS EVENING...AND POSSIBLY
  INTO WEDNESDAY.

* UNCERTAINTY...THERE IS A CHANCE THAT CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER
  CONDITIONS WITH GUSTY NORTHEAST WINDS AND VERY LOW RELATIVE
  HUMIDITIES COULD PERSIST INTO WEDNESDAY MORNING.

* IMPACTS...IF FIRE IGNITION OCCURS...THERE COULD BE RAPID SPREAD
  OF WILDFIRE THAT WOULD LEAD TO A THREAT TO LIFE AND PROPERTY.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A RED FLAG WARNING MEANS THAT CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS
ARE OCCURRING. THIS IN COMBINATION WITH VERY DRY FUELS COULD
CREATE EXTREME FIRE DANGER AND OR FIRE BEHAVIOR.
