Newhall Bicycle Company Closing Its Doors

By LEON WORDEN / SCVNEWS.COM
Newhall Bicycle Co., one of the shining lights of Old Town Newhall revitalization and the host of the annual Thanksgiving community feast, announced Monday that it will shut its doors at the end of the year.

“The closing of 2012 brings so many great memories,” shop owner Roger Hasper said in a Facebook post. “However, 2012 will be the final year of Newhall Bicycle Company. My family and I are being called in a new direction.”

For 8-1/2 years, Newhall Bicycle has been a family affair; Hasper’s wife, Shannon, helps out at the shop and his brother, Nate Hasper, owns Pulchella Winery next door on Main Street.

“Being able to give back to our community will always be a priority for us, both as a family and as a business,” Roger Hasper says on his company website.

He said that over the next couple of weeks, he’d be winding down the operations and possibly selling the shop.Thanksgiving feast, courtesy of Newhall Bicycle | Photo from Jennifer Fischer It’s had a facelift since he opened its doors. Over the summer the city of Santa Clarita subsidized part of the cost of new facades for Newhall Bicycle and many other Old Town Newhall businesses with federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (aka “stimulus”) dollars.

November saw the eighth annual Thanksgiving Day feast on the street in front of the shop, located at 24261 Main Street. Hasper and friends provide food to the needy, and also help Single Mothers Outreach at Christmastime.

One final bike ride is planned for Monday at 6 p.m.

Hint to holiday shoppers: The inventory needs to be cleared out by Dec. 31, and everything is on clearance.

“Thank you for supporting a small mom-’n’-pop shop,” Hasper told his Facebook friends. “We’ve had an absolute blast, a dream come true. God works in mysterious ways and we love that.”
