The Maddux family of Newhall has been listening to Christmas music for months already. It was all part of the 700 hours it took them to program the light and music show that transforms their house this time of year.
The light show is a community event, as well as an opportunity to help those less fortunate during the holiday season. The Madduxes invite everyone who visits their house to bring a canned food item and leave it in the barrel outside.
“We do a food drive with Help the Children,” said Joshua Maddux, “to help get their name out there and help raise awareness for them.”
While their light show started small it has since grown, as Maddux notes, “Four years ago, we decided to do a light show with 16 channels of lights. This year we have just over 1100, with 41,000 lights.”
The Maddux residence is located on Dalton Street in Newhall. They ask that those interested in seeing the show park on a side street and walk the rest of the way, to help avoid congestion and problems for their neighbors.
