Head-On Crash A Sorry Send-off For Local Warrior

By Leon Worden, SCVNews.com

Hours away from shipping off to Afghanistan, a Saugus man was just trying to take his family to dinner when they collided head-on with another Traffic collision in Santa Claritavehicle Monday in Newhall.

Angel Ramos, a private military contractor who provides support for unmanned aerial vehicles (drones), appeared to be uninjured as he watched paramedics load his mother onto a gurney.

“It seems like my mom is – her neck is hurting a little bit,” Ramos said. “Hopefully everything turns out to be OK. All that matters is that nobody gets hurt. We’re taking my mom to the hospital right now to make sure everything turns out all right.”

Ramos said he’s scheduled to deploy to Afghanistan Tuesday.

Details from emergency response agencies after the fact were sketchy because no major injuries resulted from the crash. Its bark was worse than its bite.

Airbags deployed in the blue sedan at left.

The collision was reported at 1:57 p.m. on Railroad Avenue just past the Newhall Avenue intersection. The Fire Department arrived three minutes later to find the front end of a blue four-door sedan smashed in. Its airbags deployed and its driver was still sitting behind the wheel with no obvious injuries.

Ramos and several family members were riding in a silver Jeep Wrangler Sport.
