UPDATED: Gas Main Breaks, Five Homes Evacuated

Residents are being let back into their Valencia homes Tuesday afternoon, according to fire official.

The gas main break was secured around 11:50 a.m., fire officials said.
Five homes north of West Creek Academy on West Hills Drive were evacuated as a precaution, said  L.A. County Fire spokeswoman Stephanie English.

A gas-main break prompted Fire and Sheriff’s department officials to evacuate five homes near West Creek Academy in Valencia, although the school and its students are not in danger, fire officials said.

“WE had a 4-inch gas-main break due to construction,” said Stephanie English, spokeswoman for L.A. County Fire. “No evacuations have been called for the school because the children are not in danger.”

The evacuations are supposed to last for several hours while Gas Company officials fix the break, she said.

Fire and law enforcement officials are currently at the scene.
