DACC Celebrates National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week

The County of Los Angeles Department of Animal Care and Control will celebrate National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week, November 4-10, in honor of the community, their animals and all staff and volunteers. All six County Animal Care Centers will host Open Houses on Thursday, November 8 between 12 and 2 p.m.
“We are excited to extend some additional hospitality to visitors during our Open House,” said DACC Director Marcia Mayeda. “Staff will be available for animal care center tours and meet and greet opportunities with animal control officers. Volunteers will be on-hand to assist with pet adoption.”

National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week was started in 1996 as a way to acknowledge and promote the role shelters play in a community and to increase public awareness of animal welfare issues and shelter services.

“There are many ways you can help your local shelter, such as volunteering, donating and adopting,” Mayeda said.

The entire week of November 4-10 is devoted to the campaign, so Department officials encourage everyone to visit their local animal care center and visit with shelter staff. DACC will be receiving a scroll at the County Board of Supervisors meeting on Wednesday, November 7 to kick-off the celebration.

County Animal Care Centers are open Monday-Thursday, 12 to 7 p.m. and Friday-Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information about DACC, including adoptions and volunteer opportunities, click here.
