CSU Plans To Table Fee Hike For Career Students

LEON WORDEN, SCVNEWS.COM

The California State University board of trustees has postponed its review of a plan to raise fees for so-called “career” students.

The board was scheduled to consider a new fee structure Tuesday at its meeting in Long Beach.

The plan, as proposed by university staff, would raise fees for students who  take more than four typical years’ worth of courses; those who take 18 or more units at a time; and those who have to repeat courses.

The stated purpose of the plan is to reduce the time to a degree and increase “access for an estimated 16,000 more high school and community college students.”

A statement from the CSU chancellor’s office Tuesday said the proposal will be reviewed “at a later date after trustees gather additional information and input from stakeholders.”
