    Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update June 04, 2014

    In baseball, Dana Eveland, who played at College of the Canyons, made his first appearance in the major leagues in more than a year on Monday.

    Eveland pitched 2/3 of a inning in relief against the Phillies. He came in with two runners on in the eighth inning and preserved a four-run lead for the Mets.

    Eveland spent the 2013 season pitching in South Korea. The Mets are the eighth major league team Eveland has played on.

    Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update June 03, 2014

    Golden Valley’s Jonathan Kang shot a 7-over 79 in the CIF/SCGA Southern California Championship at Brookside Golf Club in Pasadena and fell short of advancing to the state tournament.

    He finished in a tie for 67th place at Brookside. Sage Kasaga of Murrieta Valley won the Southern California championship with a 4-under 68. The cut to qualify for the state tournament was even par.

    Kang had five bogeys and a double bogey. He birdied only one hole.

    Kang is the first boys golfer from Golden Valley to reach the CIF/SCGA Southern California Championship.

    Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update June 2, 2014

    In high school track and field, three athletes from the Foothill League will compete in the CIF State track and field meet in Clovis.

    Brian Zabilski from Saugus qualified in the 3,200. Brett Molster from Canyon will compete in the high jump. Nathan Bultman from West Ranch qualified in the shot put.

    Zabilski broke the Saugus school record in the 3,200 in 8 minutes, 59.98 seconds. He finished in third place in his Masters Meet race.

    Molster cleared 6 feet, 7 inches and finished in third place at the Masters Meet. The top jumpers cleared 6 feet, 9 inches.

    The Los Angeles Kings have another chance to knock the Chicago Blackhawks out of the playoffs and advance to the NHL Stanley Cup Final.

    The Kings lost to the Blackhawks, 5-4, in double overtime in Game 5 of the Western Conference finals.

    Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Update - May 29, 2014

    In high school baseball, Mike Killinger is the new head coach at Valencia. He was the interim coach of the team after Jared Snyder was took a leave of absence two games into the Foothill League season.

    Snyder is being investigated by the school district for ethical and financial misconduct.

    The Valencia baseball team reached the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs under Killinger.

    In high school golf, Golden Valley’s Jonathan Kang shot a 3-over 74 in the CIF Southern Section boys individual championship at Mission Lakes Country Club in Desert Hot Springs.

    He finished in a tie for 15th place and qualified for the CIF/SCGA Regional State tournament at Brookside Country Club in Pasadena.

    Kang was one of four golfers from the Foothill League in the Southern Section individual championship. Kang made the cut by two strokes.

    SCV All Stars Reach The Peak Of Perfection

    Senior Blue team caps off undefeated season with a National Championship

    SCV All Stars shone brightly at the prestigious Summit National Championships in Orlando last weekend. Four of the five all-star cheerleading teams made it to the final day of competition, resulting in two national championships, a second place and a third place.

    Santa Clarita Sports: Valencia Baseball Is Lone Team Left In Playoffs

    The Kings are one win away from advancing to the NHL Stanley Cup finals.

    The Kings beat the visiting Chicago Blackhawks, 5-2, in Game 4 of the Western Conference finals.

    Jake Muzzin, Marian Gaborik and Dustin Brown scored in the first period to give the Kings a 3-0 lead.

    The Kings are up 3-1. They can wrap up the series in Game 5 in Chicago on Wednesday.

    Santa Clarita Sports: Santa Clarita Blue Heat Kick-Off Against Seattle Sounders

    In women’s soccer, the Santa Clarita Blue Heat opens against the Seattle Sounders tonight at The Master’s College.

    Kickoff is at 5:30.

    In auto racing, the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West makes its annual visit to Kern County Raceway Park for the Armed Forces 150 on Saturday night.

    Santa Clarita Sports: Foothill League Baseball Went 0-2 In Playoffs

    The Kings exploded against the Chicago Blackhawks and evened up the Western Conference finals of the NHL playoffs.

    The Kings scored five goals in the third period and won Game 2, 6-2. Jeff Carter recorded a hat trick scoring all three goals in the third period.

    The Kings were down 2-0 in the second period. They scored six unanswered goals to win the game and tie up the series, 1-1.

    Game 3 is at Staples Center on Saturday.
