    Bryan Herta Autosport Will Skip Brazil IndyCar Series Race

    khts_sportsBryan Herta Autosport has decided to skip the Izod IndyCar Series Streets of Sao Paulo race in Brazil this weekend and focus on preparing for the Indianapolis 500 in May.

    Hart Girls Swim Team Tested By Saugus At Santa Clarita Relays

    khts_sportsThe Hart girls swim team won the annual Santa Clarita Relays at the Aquatics Center, but Saugus tested the Indians until the final race of the meet.

    Hart won the 200 medley relay and narrowly beat Saugus, 69-65. Valencia was third with 59 points. Hart trailed Saugus by one point entering the 200 medley relay, the final race of the meet. Hart’s team of Megan Schultz, Christine Lusk, Asia Antoniuk and Tamara Santoyo won the race and the meet for the Indians.

    Valencia Track Team Sets Four School Records At Mt. SAC Relays

    khts_sportsThe Valencia track team broke four school records at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut over the weekend.

    The boys 4x200 meter relay team won the high school seeded race and set the school record in 1 minute, 29.6 seconds.

    The boys sprint medley relay team was third in its seeded race and set the school record in 3 minutes, 36.45 seconds.

    Sophomore Saugus Starter Shuts Down Golden Valley In Softball

    khts_sportsIt looks like the Saugus softball team has another rising star.

    Sophomore Brandi Burgin shut out Golden Valley for five innings and the Centurions blanked the Grizzlies, 11-0, in a Foothill League game.

    She gave up five hits and struck out seven making the start in place of junior Alanna Layton.

    Valencia Baseball Team Rallies In Seventh Inning Against West Ranch

    IMG_2155The Valencia baseball team scored two runs in the seventh inning and completed a come-from-behind, 5-3, win over West Ranch.

    Brian Mundell knocked in both runs in the top of the seventh inning with a double off the right field wall.

    West Ranch had a 3-1 lead in the third inning, but Valencia scored four unanswered runs to win the game.

    Chris Gimenez earned the win in relief, tossing 5 2/3 shutout innings.

    Saugus Softball Team Takes Over First Place In Foothill League

    khts_sportsThe Saugus softball team looks like it’s not quite ready to relinquish the Foothill League title.

    Saugus beat Valencia, 3-1, and improved to 3-0 in the Foothill League standings. The Vikings lost for the first time in league play.

    Karlee Bickford delivered the big blow for Saugus with a three-run double in the sixth inning.

    Wendy Cardinali hit a solo home run for Valencia’s only run.

    Saugus Ice Hockey Team Beats Hart, Stays Undefeated

    khts_sportsThe Saugus High ice hockey team is really cooling off the competition at the Ice Station Valencia.

    Saugus beat Hart, 3-1, and remained undefeated at 6-0 in the high school ice hockey league.

    The Centurions scored three goals in the third period. Aharon Lara, Dillon Thomas and Austin Ehrlich each scored a goal for Saugus.

    Joey Cicoria scored the lone goal for Hart.

    Hart High Grad Up For USA Softball Collegiate Player Of The Year

    khts_sportsA Hart High graduate might end up as the best collegiate softball player in the nation.

    Jessica Shults, a junior at Oklahoma, is one of 25 finalists for the USA Softball collegiate player of the year. She is hitting .413 with 12 home runs and 38 RBIs in 41 games for Oklahoma.

    In high school softball, Hart won the fifth-place game in the Woodbridge Tournament, 7-5, over Torrance.

    Hart Baseball Team Takes Over First Place In Foothill League

    khts_sportsThe Hart baseball team is on top of the Foothill League standings after a thrilling, 11-10, win over Saugus and thanks to a Canyon upset over West Ranch.

    Trailing 10-7 in the sixth inning, Hart scored four runs to take the lead and win the game.

    Baggio Saldivar tied the score with an RBI double in the sixth inning. Connor O’Brien drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly.

    College Of The Canyons Golf Team Breaks School Record

    khts_sportsThe College of the Canyons men’s golf team took the San Dimas Golf Club to a new low in a Western State Conference match.

    The COC golfers set a school record with a 15-under 345 to win the seventh conference match of the season.

    Tyler Schwanz led four golfers from COC who shot under par. He had the low round of the day, a 5-under 67. Derek Larson and Luke Kristo each shot 4-under 68. Riley Hayfield was 2-under at 70.
