    West Ranch Baseball Team Ends CIF Playoff Run In Semis

    khts_sportsThe West Ranch baseball team ran out of runs in the semifinals of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.

    The Wildcats lost to Corona, 2-1, at Blair Field at Long Beach State, ending one of the best playoff runs in high school baseball in the Santa Clarita Valley.

    West Ranch starter Cody Bennett nearly matched Corona starter Daniel Pena pitch for pitch. Bennett gave up two runs on five hits and pitched a complete game.

    West Ranch Reaches Semifinals Of CIF Baseball Playoffs

    khts_sportsThe West Ranch baseball team is in the final four of the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs.

    The Wildcats knocked out Orange Lutheran, the top seed in the Division I playoffs, in the quarterfinals. West Ranch won, 5-4, and will play Corona in the semifinals today at 3.

    West Ranch Plays Top-Seeded Orange Lutheran In CIF Baseball Playoffs

    khts_sportsThe Santa Clarita Valley will be the center of the high school baseball playoff universe today with three teams in action in the CIF quarterfinals.

    West Ranch, the Foothill League champion, takes on Orange Lutheran, the top-seeded team in the Southern Section Division 1 bracket and by many accounts the No. 1 team in the nation.

    West Ranch will send ace J.C. Cloney to the mound. He is 8-1 with a 1.57 ERA.

    Jersey Mike's Holding Fund-Raiser For Popiel Family

    The family of Amber Strickhorn Popiel needs your help.

    Jersey Mike’s in Canyon Country is having a fund-raiser on Saturday for the Popiel family. She was killed in a car crash in Canyon Country on Sunday.

    Popiel and her family were active in the Canyon Country Little League. She was a scorekeeper for her daughter’s softball team and her husband was a volunteer coach. She was a graduate of Canyon High School and worked at Peterson Dean Roofing.

    The fund-raiser is from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.

    The Master's College's Thane Ringler Tied For 19th At NAIA National Championship

    khts_sportsThane Ringler from The Master’s College is tied for 19th place at the midway point of the four-day NAIA Men’s Golf National Championship in Oregon.

    He shot a 2-over 74 on the second day of the tournament and is 5-over after two rounds at the Creekside Golf Course in Salem.

    Ringler is 11 shots behind Brandon Meltzer from Johnson and Wales University. The tournament continues today and ends on Friday.

    West Ranch, Saugus Advance To Quarterfinals Of CIF Baseball Playoffs

    khts_sportsThe West Ranch and Saugus baseball teams advanced to the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs.

    West Ranch eliminated Capistrano Valley, 8-5. JC Cloney hit a three-run home run and Gabe Peralta drove in two runs with a single for West Ranch.

    The Wildcats play top-seeded Orange Lutheran on Friday.

    The Saugus baseball team stunned Riverside North, 7-4, erasing a 4-0 deficit to advance in the playoffs.

    COC's Chris Low Wins State Title In 800

    khts_sportsChris Low from College of the Canyons won the state title in the 800 for the second year in a row.

    Low won the 800 in 1 minute, 49.16 seconds at the California Community College Athletic Association track and field meet at Cerritos College. He was one of six athletes from College of the Canyons to earn All-America honors at the meet.

    Hart's Tim White A Double Winner At CIF Track And Field Meet

    khts_sportsHart’s Tim White had quite a meet at the CIF Southern Section track and field finals at Mt. San Antonio College.

    He became the first athlete in school history to win two CIF Southern Section titles. He won the Division III high jump and the triple jump.

    Hart teammate Austin O’Neil kept the winning drive alive at the Southern Section finals. He won the Division III 1,600 race, giving Hart three Southern Section championships at the meet.

    West Ranch, Saugus, Valencia Reach Second Round Of CIF Softball Playoffs

    khts_sportsThe three softball teams from the Foothill League in the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs advanced to the second round.

    West Ranch took care of El Modena, 3-1, behind a stellar effort from Wildcats starter Bailey Foster.

    Keeley Walsh came through with a two-run double in the fourth inning that proved to the be the difference in the game.

    Saugus knocked off La Palma Kennedy, 8-6. Taylor Kister homered for the Centurions in a see-saw game.

    West Ranch, Saugus Home For First-Round CIF Softball Playoffs

    khts_sportsThe CIF softball playoffs resume today with four teams from the Santa Clarita Valley in action.

    West Ranch, the Foothill League champion, is home for its first round Southern Section Division I playoff game against El Modena.

    The Saugus softball team is also home for its first round game against La Palma Kennedy.

    The Valencia softball team is on the road and plays Los Osos.
