    Valencia Softball Team Beats Canyon, 7-6, To Stay In Playoff Hunt

    The Valencia softball team beat Canyon, 7-6, in home run derby style.

    Kristina Brackpool hit a grand slam in the first inning to give Valencia a 4-0 lead.

    But Canyon hit four home runs, including two solo shots by Julianna Carlos, to keep the game close.

    Hart Baseball Team Beats First-Place West Ranch

    The Hart baseball team knocked off first-place West Ranch, 3-2, in a Foothill League game at Hart High.

    Chad Haslock took a no-hitter into the seventh inning against West Ranch. He gave up a leadoff single and loaded the bases in the seventh inning. But the Indians held on to win the game.

    Haslock also hit a run-scoring double to give Hart a 3-0 lead in the sixth inning.

    COC's Mychal Rivera Selected By The Oakland Raiders In NFL Draft

    College of the Canyons alum Mychal Rivera was selected in the sixth round of the NFL draft by the Oakland Raiders.

    The tight end played one season at College of the Canyons before transferring to the University of Tennessee. He caught 32 passes for 316 yards and three touchdowns in his only season at COC in 2009.

    Valencia Boys Tennis Team Ranked No. 6 In CIF Poll

    The Valencia boys tennis team held steady at No. 6 in the CIF Southern Section Division 2 poll for the second week in a row.

    The Vikings ran their undefeated Foothill League record to 9-0. They won their eighth Foothill League championship in a row and won their 70th straight league match.

    West Ranch Baseball Team All Alone In First Place In Foothill League

    The West Ranch baseball team beat Golden Valley, 5-2, to take over first place in the Foothill League standings.

    The Wildcats scored all five runs in the fourth inning. Jake Spurlin knocked in two runs with a double in the inning.

    West Ranch is 8-3 and has a one-game lead over Canyon in the Foothill League standings.

    Canyon Softball Team Beats Golden Valley, Wins Third Game In A Row

    The Canyon softball team beat Golden Valley, 17-7, and won its third game in a row.

    The Canyon girls scored seven runs in the first inning and added six more in the fourth inning. They had 15 hits as a team in the game.

    The West Ranch softball team shut out Hart, 12-0, to remain undefeated in Foothill League play. Kylie Sorenson hit a home run and scored three times for West Ranch. Keeley Walsh drove in three runs and hit a double.

    West Ranch Baseball Team Erupts At The Plate Against Golden Valley

    The West Ranch baseball team was locked in a tight game with Golden Valley before exploding in the fifth inning.

    The Wildcats scored seven runs in the fifth en route to an 8-1 win over the Grizzlies.

    The score was tied 1-1 before West Ranch sent 11 batters to the plate in the fifth inning. Jake Bird knocked in three runs with a two-out triple. Tyler Woldanski knocked in two runs with a double in the inning.

    West Ranch Softball Team Remains Undefeated In Foothill League Play

    The West Ranch softball team is starting to run away from the rest of the Foothill League.

    The Wildcats beat Valencia, 6-3, and ran its Foothill League record to 5-0. They have a commanding two-game lead over Valencia and Saugus for first place in the league standings.

    Charlotte Romero delivered the big blow for West Ranch with a two-run double in the seventh inning. She reached base all four times she came to the plate.

    West Ranch, Canyon Baseball Teams Close To Cracking CIF Top 10 Poll

    The Canyon and West Ranch baseball teams are knocking on the door of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 top 10.

    Both teams are listed among others in the Division 1 poll. Canyon and West Ranch are tied for first place in the Foothill League standings with 6-3 records.

    Mater Dei is the No. 1 team in Division 1.

    Saugus Girls 4x1,600 Relay Team Sets Fastest Time In The Nation

    Four girls on the Saugus track team are among the nation’s elite after winning the 4 x 1,600 relay at the Mt. San Antonio College Relays.

    Abigial Frankian, Heidi Hoslet, Samantha Ortega and Sabrina Janes set the fastest time in the nation in the 4 x 1,600 relay in 20 minutes, 21.47 seconds, and broke the time set by Aptos High School.

    The Canyon girls were fifth in the 4 x 1,600 relay in 21 minutes, 0.32 seconds.

    The Saugus boys were 10th in the 4 x 1,600 relay in 17 minutes, 47.15 seconds.
