Valencia Football Team Faces Palos Verdes In CIF Semifinals

The Valencia football team hosts Palos Verdes in the semifinals of the CIF Southern Section Northern Division playoffs tonight.

The Vikings, the second-seeded team in the playoffs, are coming off a 42-7 win over Quartz Hill in the quarterfinals.

Palos Verdes, the No. 3 seed in the playoffs, eliminated Hart, 49-28, in their quarterfinal playoff game.

In college basketball, The Master’s College men play Pomona Pitzer in the David Wells Classic at Claremont College tonight.

The Mustangs are off to a 4-1 start. They beat UC Merced, 75-60, last week.

The College of the Canyons women’s basketball team plays Laney College in the Ventura-Kiwanis tournament today at Ventura College.

This is the second tournament of the season for the Lady Cougars. They went 1-2 in the Mt. SAC Tipoff tournament two weeks ago.

In the NFL, Valencia High graduate Shane Vereen scored a touchdown for the New England Patriots in a 49-19 win over the New York Jets on Thursday night.

He caught two passes for 91 yards, one an 83-yard touchdown from quarterback from Tom Brady in the second quarter. Vereen also rushed 10 times for 42 yards.

The Patriots have won five games in a row. The Jets have lost four of the past five games.
