Valencia Faces Paso Robles In First Round Of CIF Football Playoffs

The Valencia football team capped its Foothill League championship run with a 49-0 shutout over Golden Valley.

The Vikings will enter the CIF Southern Section Northern Division playoffs as the No. 2 seed and play Paso Robles on Friday night.

Canyon beat Hart on a last-second field goal, 17-14, and finished in second place in the Foothill League in a game heard live on AM 1220, KHTS. That earned the Cowboys a home game in the first round of the playoffs against San Luis Obispo.

Hart went from being the No. 1 team in the Northern Division to the third-place team in the Foothill League in two weeks. The Indians will open the playoffs on the road against Arroyo Grande.

Palmdale went undefeated at 10-0 and won the Golden League championship. The Falcons are the top-seeded team in the Northern Division playoffs and will play Atascadero in the first round.

Saugus won its season finale, 24-14, over West Ranch. Neither team made the playoffs.

The Trinity football team cruised in the first round of the Southern Section Division II 8-man playoffs, 71-6 over Price.

The Santa Clarita Christian football team shut out Animo Leadership, 54-0.

In college football, College of the Canyons beat Cerritos College, 38-36. COC receiver Tim White caught six passes for 103 yards and scored two touchdowns.

In high school volleyball, four teams from the Foothill League qualified for the CIF playoffs. Saugus plays Simi Valley in the wild-card round of the Southern Section Division IA playoffs tonight. The game is at Saugus High.

Valencia, the Foothill League champion, will play Flintridge Sacred Heart in the first round of the Division IA bracket on Tuesday.

Hart plays Moorpark at home. West Ranch opens on the road against Louisville.

The Santa Clarita Christian girls volleyball team, the champion of the Heritage League, has a bye in the first round of the Division VAA playoffs. The Cardinals will play the winner of the match between Hesperia Christian and Upland Christian on Thursday.

In high school tennis, the Valencia girls beat Canyon of Anaheim, 11-7, in the second round of the Southern Section Division II playoffs.

The Hart girls lost to Troy, 12-6, and were eliminated from the playoffs.

In the Santa Clarita Marathon, The Master’s College graduate and Valencia’s Jeffrey Jackson won the men’s race in 2 hours, 30 minutes, 52 seconds. Petra Mullers won the women’s race in 3 hours, 8 minutes, 55 seconds.

In the NBA, the Lakers won their first game of the season, 108-79, over the Detroit Pistons.
