Saugus Girls Soccer Team Wins Buena Tournament

The Saugus girls soccer team shut out Oaks Christian, 1-0, in the championship game of the Buena Tournament.

Angie Weiner scored the lone goal of the game in the first half and goalkeeper Maddie Hebert held Oaks Christian scoreless.

It was the second time in three years the Centurions won the Buena Tournament. They have reached the championship match in all three years, playing Oaks Christian each time.

The Saugus girls tied Dos Pueblos, 1-1, and advanced on penalty kicks, 4-1, in the semifinals of the tournament. Weiner scored the only goal in regulation for Saugus in that game too.

The Saugus girls soccer team is ranked No. 3 in the Southern Section Division 2 poll. The Centurions are 10-0 and have seven shutouts.

The Santa Clarita Christian girls are ranked  No. 5 in the Southern Section Division 7 poll. The Cardinals scored five first-half goals en route to an 8-1 win over New Roads at The Master’s College.

The Hart boys soccer team is ranked No. 5 in the latest CIF Southern Section Division 5 poll. Hart is unbeaten at 4-0-1 and is coming off a scoreless tie against Notre Dame of Salinas.

The Indians have outscored their opponents, 10-2, and have three shutouts.

Next up for Hart is Granada Hills on Thursday.

In high school basketball, the Santa Clarita Christian boys beat Frazier Mountain, 72-58. Phillip Webb scored 27 points and had 16 rebounds for Santa Clarita Christian.

In college basketball, The Master’s College women, ranked No. 13 in the NAIA, beat Great Falls from Montana, 86-48.

Theresa Brown scored 16 points and had 10 rebounds for the Lady Mustangs. The Master’s College women are undefeated at 9-0.

In the NBA, the Clippers beat the Detroit Pistons, 88-76, and won their 10th game in a row.

Jamal Crawford scored 15 points off the bench. Blake Griffin also scored 15 points.

The Clippers are back home at Staples Center to play the New Orleans Hornets on Wednesday night.
