In the NHL, not even federal mediators could end the lockout that has wiped out nearly half the season and the All-Star game.

The NHL owners and players association ended two days of negotiations in New York without making any progress toward a collective bargaining agreement.

The possibility of cancelling the entire NHL season is closer. No meetings between the owners and players are scheduled. The lockout has lasted 76 days, games through Dec. 14 have been cancelled and the Kings have yet to raise their one and only Stanley Cup championship banner at Staples Center.
