Hart’s Jamie Corr Advances To CIF/WSCGA Girls Golf State Qualifier

Hart’s Jamie Corr shot a 3-over 75 in the CIF Southern Section Girls Golf Final at Western Hills Golf and Country Club in Chino and will advance in the playoffs.

Corr was 10th in the Southern Section finals and moves on to the CIF Women’s Southern California Golf Association Regional State Qualifier at Rancho California in Murrieta on Thursday.

Diamond Bar’s Bethany Wu shot a 3-under 69 for the low round at the Southern Section final.

Golden Valley freshman Elisa Pierre shot an 11-over 83 and missed the cut for the regional state qualifier by three strokes.

In high school cross country, the Saugus boys and girls teams won the Foothill League championships at Central Park.

Saugus sophomore Samantha Ortega won her second race in a row and captured the individual league title. She paced the Saugus girls to their seventh straight Foothill League championship.

In the boys race, Rodrigo Ornelas and AJ Yarnell from Saugus ended in a photo finish. Ornelas won by a fraction of a second, completing the course in 15 minutes, 24.6 seconds. Yarnell was second in 15 minutes, 24.8 seconds.

In high school football, Valencia can wrap up the outright Foothill League championship with a win over winless Golden Valley tonight.

The Vikings, ranked No. 2 in the CIF Southern Section Northern Division, is 4-0 in league with wins over Hart and Canyon.

Golden Valley has never won a league game and is 0-4 this season.

The game is at Canyon High School.

Across town at College of the Canyons, Hart and Canyon will play for second place in the Foothill League. Both teams are 3-1 in league play and both teams are ranked in the top 10 in the Northern Division.

Hart is No. 3 after losing to Valencia last week. Canyon is No. 9 after slipping past West Ranch last week.

The Hart and Canyon game will be part of the Great American Rivalry Series on iHigh.com.

Saugus plays West Ranch at Valencia High in the season finale for both teams.

Santa Clarita Christian plays Animo Leadership at Angelou High School in Inglewood on Saturday.

The Trinity football team opens the Southern Section Division II 8-man playoffs against Price at Valencia High on Saturday.

In the NBA, the Lakers will look to avoid an 0-3 start against the Clippers at Staples Center tonight. The Clippers meanwhile won their season opener against the Grizzlies and are looking for their second win in a row.
