Hart Boys Basketball Team Wins La Canada Tournament
The Hart boys basketball team won the La Canada Tournament and improved to 9-0 to start the season.
Hart beat St. Francis, 57-54, in the championship game. Myles Franklin scored 12 points against St. Francis and was selected as the tournament MVP.
Lewis Stallworth led Hart with 16 points in the championship game and earned a spot on the all-tournament team. Andrew MacArthur was also selected to the all-tournament team.
The Saugus boys lost to Sierra Canyon, 48-45, in the championship game of the Pacifica Tournament.
Jacob Tobon and Chris Lockwood each scored eight points and had five assists for Saugus.
In high school soccer, the Canyon boys reached the championship game of the John Muir Varsity Tournament, but lost to Muir, 3-1.
Canyon beat San Gabriel, 13-1, and Blair, 4-3 on penalty kicks, to reach the championship game of the tournament.
The Valencia girls soccer team tied Flintridge Sacred Heart, 2-2, in a game played at Occidental College.
Natalie Hein and Brooklyn Stevens each scored to give Valencia a 2-0 lead. But Flintridge Sacred Heart scored twice in the final 10 minutes of the game to tie the score.
The Saugus girls are in the semifinals of the Buena Tournament after a 3-2 win over Santa Paula.
Avery Schulhofer scored two goals, one off a penalty kick. Emily Orr also scored a goal for Saugus, which improved to 8-0.
The Centurions beat Ventura, 4-0, in pool play. Angie Weiner had two goals for Saugus against Ventura.
In college basketball, The Master’s College women, ranked No. 13 in the NAIA, beat William Jessup, 82-73. Jacquelyn Marshall scored 22 points and four players from The Master’s College scored in double figures.
The Lady Mustangs are 8-0.
In youth cross country, the California Comets, a team that included runners from the Santa Clarita Warriors, won national championships at the AAU meet in South Carolina.
Timothy Sterkel, a 12-year-old from Rancho Pico Junior High, won the midget boys race. The primary boys team won their race at the meet.
The California Comets won the midget girls race. The bantam girls and the primary girls teams also won their races.
In the NBA, the Lakers beat the Philadelphia 76ers, 111-98, and won their second game in a row. Kobe Bryant scored 34 points and Metta World Peace added 19 points and a career-high 16 rebounds.
The Lakers won back-to-back games for the first time in a month.
