It’s that time, once again, for the Halibut Hal fish report for KHTS AM-1220:

 

Freshwater Report:

1)  Castaic Lake…Lots of stripers are being caught, mostly from shore, thanks mainly to the trout plant here.  Try tossing a swimbait…resembling a trout.  Some catfish around Necktie Canyon and the Buoy Line, cut mackerel in the early morning is your best bet for the whiskers.

 

2)  Pyramid Lake…Much better striper fishing this past week; a  couple notable catches were an 11 pounder and an 18.5 pounder!  Catfishing and bass fishing remains slow.

 

3)  Lake Piru…Same as last week…SLOW; due to the very low water level of the lake.  Look for structure, weeds, tree branches or drop-offs and you might nab a fish.

 

4)  Lake Cachuma…Lots of shad schools breaking the surface with bass in “munch mode” chasing those shad. Trout and catfishing slowed down; however the carp are showing in the coves and along the bank.

 

Saltwater Report:

Landings from Long Beach to Marina Del Rey:

On Monday, the “Victory” fishing 3/4 day, with 15 anglers, from Pierpoint Landing in Long Beach nabbed 42 sheephead, 23 ocean whitefish, 101 rockfish, plus some sculpin and perch.  The “Pursuit” fishing full day on Monday, from 22nd Street Landing in San Pedro brought back 36 sheephead, 32 whitefish, 134 rockfish, 14 calico bass, and lots of perch.  Redondo and Marina Del Rey boats are scoring lots of rockfish with some sculpin and lingcod in the mix.  Still plenty of squid spawning in Santa Monica Bay.

 

Oxnard/Ventura Landings:

The “Aloha Spirit” on its 3/4 day trip on Monday from CISCO Landing, came back with 24 lingcod, 21 whitefish, 200 rockfish and 4 sheephead for the 20 anglers on board.  The “Mirage” returned to the dock from its overnight trip with 88 ocean whitefish, 26 lingcod, and 160 rockfish.  Plenty of squid is available at the islands.  No exotics at this time, but lots of good eatin’ fish and rest and relaxation…GO FISH.
