SCV Fishing Report November 13th: Local Lakes And Saltwater Report

Election day has come and gone and so has Veterans Day…so let’s talk fishin’!  Here is this week’s fishing report for both fresh and saltwater:

Freshwater Report:
1)  Castaic Lake…Last week 900 pounds of rainbow trout were stocked here.  Lots of micro-sized stripers are biting in about 100 feet of water; when they’re that size, if you can…release them and catch them when they get bigger.  Some catfish and bass biting near the Buoy Line in early morning hours.
2)  Pyramid Lake…Striper fishing picked up for lots of 2 pounders this past week.  The early morning or late afternoon hours are the time to be casting for black bass, smallmouth and largemouth bass.  Slow for catfish.
3)  Lake Piru…Slow.  The drop in water level has really hurt the bite for all species here.  Look for weeds, structure of any kind,  drop-offs, etc. and you might catch some fish.
4)  Lake Cachuma….Find the schools of shad and you’ll likely find largemouth bass chasing and devouring them!  Some trout were caught, but not like last week.  The water level is low and the crappie are hiding under structure such as tree branches.

Saltwater Report:

Landings from Long Beach to Marina Del Rey:
On Monday, the “Victory” from Pierpoint Landing in Long Beach brought back an amazing number of sheephead (48), along with 22 whitefish, 171 rockfish, plus a few sculpin and perch; there were 21 anglers on its 3/4 day run.  On Sunday, that same boat connected with 39 sheephead!  Redondo and Marina Del Rey boats are nabbing lots of rockfish along with sculpin, sheephead and a few lingcod.

Oxnard/Ventura Landings:
If you want lingcod, the Oxnard/Ventura boats are your best bet.  For example, on Monday, the “Aloha Spirit” with 22 anglers nabbed 44 lings (limits) plus 214 rockfish, 21 whitefish, 6 cabezon and 2 sheephead. Meanwhile, the “Mirage” returned Monday night from its overnight run, catching 40 lingcod, 200 rockfish, and 13 whitefish.  The “Island Spirit” from Ventura Sportfishing came back with 33 lingcod, and 207 rockfish for 28 anglers.

…and that concludes this week’s fish report;  Halibut Hal signing off for KHTS AM-1220, your Hometown Station.
