SCV Fishing Report December 4th: Local Lakes and Saltwater Report

Once again, it’s time for the Tuesday fish report for KHTS AM-1220:

Freshwater Report:

1)  Castaic Lake…Very good striper fishing near the Marina, Kong Island, Necktie Canyon and the Buoy Line; the stripers are chasing the planted trout.  A 14 pound striper was caught this past week!  Toss a kastmaster or small swimbait for best results.  Another trout stocking will take place TODAY.

2)  Pyramid Lake…Good striper fishing here, because of a recent 2700 pound trout plant; anything that resembles a trout works the best.  Fair fishing for largemouth bass; catfishing is fair to good on cut baits and nightcrawlers.

3)  Lake Piru…The bass are enjoying the higher water level of the lake and are biting in depths of 8 feet to 25 feet.  The crappie are liking it too; find some structure and fish small jigs with meal worms for them.

4)  Lake Cachuma…Everything is slow, except the trout fishing.  For trollers, fish with Rapalas near the Dam, Harvey’s Bay or Cachuma Bay.  Shore anglers should try Marina Point, E Point or the Mohawk Pier.

Another trout plant is scheduled for 12/13 (so, why not call in sick!…I’m kidding).

Saltwater Report:

Landings from Long Beach to Marina Del Rey:
The “Monte Carlo” from 22nd Street Landing, on its 1/2 day run on Saturday morning got 29 red snapper, 38 rockfish, 13 whitefish, and 6 sheephead.  Meanwhile on the “Enterprise” from Long Beach Marina, 19 anglers brought back 53 rockfish, 38 salmon grouper, 11 red snapper, 14 sheephead, 95 sculpin and 7 whitefish.  No recent reports from Redondo.  Mostly rockfish and some sculpin and a few lings from the Marina Del Rey fleet.

Oxnard/Ventura Landings:
At Cisco Landing, the “Ranger 85” returned Sunday from a 2 day trip with 29 anglers; they caught 60 lingcod, 580 rockfish, 50 whitefish, 15 sheephead, and 2 bonito.  The “Pacific Islander” with 17 anglers nabbed 25 lingcod, 170 rockfish, 29 whitefish and 39 sheephead.  The “Aloha Spirit” returned Monday from its weekly “lingcod special” with 19 lingcod, 229 rockfish, 58 whitefish, and 7 sheephead.  At Ventura Sportfishing, the “Pacific Eagle” on a Sunday twilight trip with only 6 anglers got 28 calico bass, 32 sand bass, 4 rockfish, 1 lingcod and 1 cabezon.  Live squid is still plentiful.

…okay, until next week, Halibut Hal signing off for your Hometown Station, KHTS AM-1220.
