“I believe that our sense of community is what makes us different from other areas of Southern California,” said Michele Emerick Buttelman. “I believe the SCV is one of the most giving, caring places in the country. We are so lucky to live here.”

Michele E. Buttelman was the features and entertainment editor of The Signal for 14 years. During her tenure she covered community and nonprofit news with a passion that earned her the respect of the Santa Clarita Valley.

“I am so pleased that I can continue to bring the stories of the SCV and most importantly of the SCV nonprofits, to the residents of the SCV, through KHTS,” said Buttelman. by Michele E. Buttelman for November 17, 2013

Welcome to Everything SCV for November 17, 2013

It’s been a strange weather week! Too, too hot for November early in the week and back to “seasonal” weather in time for opening of Festival of Trees. It just wouldn’t have been right to have 90 degree temps when heading out to view Christmas trees!

Holiday bake sale and boutique by Michele E. Buttelman for November 3, 2013 for November 3, 2013

The weather has been very un-autumn like the last few days…it’s been too warm! I hear a “cool down” is on the way. I certainly hope so! Enough of summer!

    ‘Tis the season

The official kick-off for the holiday season will be held Nov. 15-24 when the Festival of Trees is held at Westfield Valencia Town Center, between The Patios and Sears on Valencia Boulevard in Valencia. It is one of my favorite events of the season!

What is Festival of Trees? by Michele E. Buttelman for October, 27, 2013 for October 27, 2013

Halloween is only a few days away. Are you ready? I’ve seen some spectacular “haunts” out and about in the Santa Clarita Valley. Kudos to all who put such hard work, creativity and long hours into the effort to keep the SCV “spooky!” Top of my list is “The Dark Realm” open on Halloween night from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at 28621 Sugar Pine Way in Saugus. Happy Haunting!

SCV Scene for Oct. 20, 2013

SCV Scene has been on hiatus for the last month, and I’ve received some lovely emails wondering where I’ve been!

First, I had a nasty stomach virus that kept me down out and for several weeks and then I traveled up to Washington State.

I missed some fantastic events in the Santa Clarita Valley while I was gone including Bras for a Cause for Soroptimist International of SCV, a wonderful music and dinner event to benefit the Santa Clarita Master Chorale and the annual Afternoon Tea for Circle of Hope.

Carousel Ranch Fundraiser Heart Of The West Is A Success

The 17th annual Heart of the West fundraiser was called a “wonderful success” by Carousel Ranch executive director Denise Tomey.

The event, which attracted more than 500 guests to the Agua Dulce Airport on Saturday night, raised nearly $100,000 from the live auction and $70,000 for the fund-a-need program.

The final total for the night won’t be known until all the proceeds are added up from drink and casino sales, silent auction items, sponsorships and other donations.
